LG Flatron 29UM65-P (29") UltraWide Monitor Owners Thread

A new monitor to go with my 34UM65. ;)

I couldn't decide which one i would like the best, as i sit quite close to my screen, i feel the 34" is too big, so i'm going to use this one over the weekend and see which i prefer. :)

What's the refresh rate of this monitor? I know it's listed at 5ms, but I've seen mention of 14ms elsewhere!? I'd be coming from a Dell U2311H (1920x1080) which is 8ms, so I'm wondering if I'll be better or worse off?

Ah fair enough! You will most likely prefer the 29" then, I also sit very close to my monitor (about 70cm from the screen) and couldn't imagine going any bigger, at least for width anyway!

Unfortunately there is no exact figure for this specific monitor due to the lack of reviews :( and a lot of sites don't properly test the response time anyway, badass went into detail about why and which sites are the best for response times:

Also, response time will come down to what setting you use, you have; off (highest response time), low, middle and high (lowest response time). I am using the high setting as I find it to be the best for motion clarity, there is some ghosting/motion trail but I only notice those issues when using certain tests i.e.

I came from a dell u2311h and can't notice too much of a difference in motion clarity.

In general, colour performance, productivity etc. do you feel it's a step up and improved in all ways, compared to the U2311H?

Yup very happy with it!

- blacks are blacker, whites are whiter, MUCH brighter, can't notice any banding on this compared to the dell and in general just better looking
- much better anti-glare finish so better clarity/sharpness and the image appears to float out from the display more as well as the screen being more visible/easy to see when you have light shining on the monitor
- I love the lack of chassis bezel
- the extra width/res makes multi-tasking better i.e. web browser on one side and a youtube video or tv show on the other side (I came from a dual monitor setup, the dell + a 19" 4.3 screen and don't miss it at all except when it comes to gaming i.e. being able to see who is on ts and what is being posted as well as monitoring temps etc.)

And of course, the 21.9 aspect ratio is the main advantage. I watch a lot of films so the lack of black bars is great and gaming is much more immersive.

If I could change anything with this particular monitor, it would be the following:

- better response time or some sort of special back lighting to make motion clarity perfect
- gsync or freesync (rather have this over 144HZ refresh rate)
- 1 more inch for the vertical height
- no glossy plastic at all, instead a matte finish

You can see my full review on the LG screen here:

Great, thanks. I'd read that actually, good review. As I'd be coming from the same monitor you had before, I was particularly interested in your thoughts going from one to the other :) I'm with you on the glossy plastic... from a visual point of view it definitely lets this monitor down slightly.

NP :)

Yeah it really is the biggest let down for me tbh, I absolutely despise a glossy plastic finish, it just makes products look and feel sooooooo cheap, not to mention the way it is a finger print magnet + acts like a mirror.....

I just updated the review there with a few extra bits and removed some waffle etc. Going to try and get some videos uploaded too although my N5 camera does the screen no justice :(

Unfortunately no sure way to know unless a really good site with the proper testing tools review both monitors :( Although I don't think there would be much of a difference between the 2.

I don't know why there aren't more "expert" reviews of the 29" 21.9 monitors...... They seem to be more popular than the 34" monitors now!

Anyone had any glitches like this?

Happens every few minutes and I managed to catch it on my iPad. Only seems to happen in Windows, never in game. using a new DVI-D cable I got when I ordered the Monitor.

I got my monitor today and I've noticed this on the desktop now and again.

I've gone into CCC and selected Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution monitors. (it says to do it if you are seeing corruption).

I've not noticed it again so far anyway. Hopefully that's resolved it.

Here's my 29UB65-P. Very impressed, the stand is a dream to use. It slides up and down with ease, feels like some sort of gas mechanism(?) and tilts/rotates very easily too. Little disappointed to see that despite the pictures on the overclockers shop the LG symbol is red, not white but it's not as noticeable as I thought. Loving the 21:9 aspect. I thought I'd struggle to get used to a smaller screen and a wide aspect coming from a 32" TV but there's no issue at all.

Where are your cables hidden in this picture?? I've got my monitor set up now (the same model as this).. but I can't see where cables can be hidden like yours?!

Well that didn't stop it as I just got a destop flicker again.

Maybe I should use HDMI connection?? Thoughts?

I've selected both of these DVI options now as it says both can stop display corruption. Will see how that goes before I bust out the HDMI cable

Still doing it - time for HDMI cable.

Update - Still doing it randomly on the desktop. Rolled back AMD drivers, still doing it. Installed Beta drivers, still doing it.

Downloaded monitor driver - still doing it.

Mmmm................... I'm thinking I may be sending this back at this rate.

Ha ha.. yeah. It'll be going back. Random flashing/flickering.

Now I'm thinking what my next step is! lol. I already have a BenQ 120Hz 24" monitor. I just fancied some widescreen action. :/
