LG Flatron 29UM65-P (29") UltraWide Monitor Owners Thread

Resolution will play a part but the main reason will be the wonderful anti-glare finish :) The best I have seen on any monitor.

IPS glow will change/disappear if you move your head straight to that corner, where as with bleed it will be visible no matter what angle you view it from.

Regarding OC and frame skipping, not too sure how accurate this is.... but I have read that apparently the type of cable used makes a difference, I think people said they get better results with HDMI, I suppose it does make sense since it is a different connection type and for 4k monitors, you need display port in order to have 4k@60HZ (iirc)

As said above the pin is stopping you from adjusting the stand. You will need a screw driver, it's in tight and it's longer than you'd think but will pop out with some care.

by eye , pretty sensitive to this sorta thing , will run it through UFOtest when I get a few hours staring at it tonight to bench just to make sure

would have preferred DVI but will have to forgo that now.

So guys , thought id bring something up which had me freaking out this morning.

after plugging my monitor in via 2 HDMI cables to my rig and server
I booted the PC up , realsiing my H100i color had reset and flashed a bright alternate red and blue instead of my solid white, I couldn't reset it via corsair link as I removed the USB and run SP120's via the motherboard as it more convinent for me overclocking. left it as it was last night shut down and went to kip .

this morning I
walk into my office and look inside my case as usual to open dust & clean ( do it everyday ) and my h100i was glowing a really faint blue and red alternatively.
I thought WTF !

I Immediately yanked the power lead from the PSU and continued to Observe .

after this what appeared to me was that 2 AF White l.e.d fans at the bottom of the case where also still very dimly lit but no rotation ... and then both my cards 2nd fans where occasionaly powering up then down ... all this with the power lead out !

as soon as I unplugged the HDMI , poof gone .

pluged back in , the problem re appeard, I re-sat the cable into the back of the monitor, the same thing . the next time I removed my server HMDI and poof problem gone! ...

and now boot the machine up and the H100i is back white , and nothing is lighting up and zero fans are pulsing.

is this a fault or what . I need 2 sources... I bought the monitor so I could rid the 2 monitors I had. any body experience anything like this befor?

Any idea out of these 3 which is better for gaming?

They are all using the same panel. The 29EB53 is about a year older though so might not be as good as the 29um65/29ub65 but due to the lack of reviews, no way to be 100% sure :(
If that's the case, I am wondering why the UB65 has a contrast ratio of 10000000:1 vs the UM65 of 5000000:1. Is that a typo? The LG site spec would indicate that it is. I'm also wondering if the EB53 is also the same as EA93, only with a different stand? The EA93 is a December 2012 model. The EB53 isn't on the LG site anymore, oddly, but the EA93 is. Do they all use an identical panel anyway? This is confusing lol!

From what I understand, after speaking with LG about the EB53 I owned, that model was not meant to be sold in the UK but was intended for the Hungarian business market....

....that could be why I was not able to register the monitor for its warranty, with LG when using the UK website. Also LG ere pretty useless when it came to sending me the screws which were missing from the box when I received it from OC, they sent me the wrong ones three times IIRC.

they arent identical monitors but im pretty sure they all use the same panel. that 10000000 etc contract ratio is with dynamic contrast on, which is trash anyway. contrast ration on these panels is somewhere around 900-1000:1 as i recall.

I'm wondering if the EB53 uses the earlier or later revision of the panel though, which I know the EA93 had a problem with at the beginning (rev 1.09 I believe), but the later revison, 1.25, was an improved version with far better response time. I guess it's a given that the UM65/UB65 will have the newer version, but I've no idea about the EB53. I guess it comes down to how old the EB53 actually is, and if it predates or is around the same time as the initial EA93 batch, which might not be a good sign. Can you tell when you get the monitor what revision panel you have... is it written on the back of the screen somewhere?

Interesting that it was never meant for sale in UK though. I can only guess those Hungarians didn't buy as many as they'd hoped, so we got the excess stock?

This monitor is excellent for high paced FPS games.

Just knocked out a few hours of BF4, COD4 and some L4D2, games plays blisteringly fast, no lag, tearing, no motion blur, absolutely perfect, and the colors look fantastic. :)

The EB53 is a stunning monitor with a lovely matte black / brushed black coloured bezel and stand. The stand itself is solid and quite extendable.
I had no trouble with registering it with LG for its warranty over the phone and providing that you appreciate a 21:9 for what it offers, and vertical screen limitations, then it is a great choice.

Not sure about the panel revision but it was certainly fine in any game that I played, in respects of the resonsive nature of the screen.

Anyone had any glitches like this?

Happens every few minutes and I managed to catch it on my iPad. Only seems to happen in Windows, never in game. using a new DVI-D cable I got when I ordered the Monitor.

To update.. I was getting a very similar problem to this. Desktop flickering.

Not a monitor issue, more a graphics card issue I think. I know another two people reported the same on here for some reason.

I tried various BIOS's for my card (r9 290), no real success. I tried setting 2D/3D clocks in MSI. Still, didn't resolve it.

I tried HDMI which other said stopped it (didn't for me).

I then got a cheap display port cable from ebay.. and it solved the problem?!

Bizarre! I only experienced it in 2560x1080, not when set to 1920x1080. I also connected my laptop the the monitor at 2560x1080 to rule out if it was the monitor or not.

I can only put it down to a driver issue for the GPU?

Anyway.. resolved now!! Although it wasn't a big deal, it was doing my nut in!!

You will never get the contrast ratio advertised on any of the monitors. Most IPS monitors only go around 900-1100

They all use the same panels, however, they all vary i.e. out of the box calibration/colours, firmware revision, performance i.e. input lag and response time etc. But I imagine that the difference won't be that "much".

Well I've gone ahead and ordered the EB53, primarily because I simply cannot abide the gloss black finish on the UM65/UB65. I spend too much time in front of my monitor to be able to endure that lol! Here's hoping I get a good one! :)
