LG OLED C9 as a PC monitor - Yes, I'm crazy, Yes time to get some burn in.

Sort of wish Overclockers had forseen the demand for this and ordered some (if possible) and all this confusion with non-tech savvy retailers could have been avoided!!!

You'd end up paying hundreds more if ocuk did due to "stock shortages, exchange rate and demand"

Tbh I would pay well over the odds to make sure I got the ******* thing Asap. Stuck at home in quarantine has me climbing the walls on my home office.

Ran into this today, may be interesting to others as well:

Read those articles before and they do sum up the "organic" nature of OLED, however, I would take them with a pinch of salt for the oled tech we have now as those articles are old, one being from 2007.... Not to mention, it doesn't really correlate with how some TVs handle HDR etc.

A decent read the below one too:

https://www.techhive.com/article/3239350/will-hdr-kill-your-oled-tv.html

Also, worth bearing in mind, whilst LCD doesn't exactly "deteriorate" the way OLED does, they can also suffer from other issues like failing backlight etc., which can result in an even worse picture over time.

I always notice that my LCD monitors and a few LCD TVs I had in the past start to show signs of back light issues, which then leads onto uniformity problems etc. after about 4/5 years.

Right update from mark's electrical - sounds like they had a line on a few of these at less than MSRP but was a **** up from LG and the offer was only meant to go to Curry's for a specific Curry's version (silver and cheaper).

Hence they pulled the listing - have requested refund and have ordered the full price model in black from Curry's which have given me a 10 days shipping estimate.

Given they will be the largest retailer for LG nationally I presume they will be the first to get stock.

The seemingly endless confusion surrounding the specifications of HDMI 2.1 connections has struck again. And this time the source of the confusion is the one brand that had previously declared itself above the whole HDMI 2.1 mess: LG Electronics.

LG has contacted me today to say that contrary to initial communications, and in a turn around from the HDMI 2.1 situation introduced with its 2019 4K TVs, none of its 2020 4K TVs, OLED or LCD, will carry ‘full bandwidth’ HDMI ports capable of handling HDMI 2.1’s maximum 48Gbps data rate.

The 48Gbps rate is required to handle uncompressed 12-bit 4K at 120Hz with RGB 4:4:4 chroma sampling. LG tells me now, though, that while the HDMIs on its premium 2019 TVs were indeed full 48Gbps examples, all four HDMIs on the WX, GX and CX OLED TVs will instead handle 10-bit (rather than 12-bit) 4K at 120Hz with RGB 4:4:4 chroma sampling. This implies a likely 40Gbps data rate.

Eh, no biggie really. I doubt there's many folk that could tell the difference between 10 and 12bit... I dare say a decent number can't even tell 8bit to 10bit and that's a god damned giant leap :D

The issue is to do with the bandwidth needed to do full chroma HDR at 4k the problem is not so much that it can't handle x or y it's what difference those 8gigs will make and that's causing a bit of anarchy ATM - some statements i've seen is that this well lead to worse 'banding' on HDR image through no one has confirmed that as of yet.

I think the main problem is that this is a feature reversion for no apparent reason - I am happy I have the C9 because the Xbox Series X could very well utilise the full 48gigs.... as could the 3080TI etc.

I'm confused why people are so up in arms about the hdmi port downgrade. There is no 12bit content out there and I'm not even sure any graphics card support it either?

No doubt the current C9 is better value for money right now but 55" isn't usable on most people's desks.

Well for me, I'd be after a 55" for the living room. And maybe move all my gaming to there. I use a controller for most games anyway.

The reduced bandwidth of the hdmi connection for new CX might make it worse for say overclocking it with CRU.

EDIt: Downsampling on AMD cards with VSR I think is tied to the bandwidth of the connection as well.

So who's really happy they bought a C9 a year ago and didn't wait for the CX :D:D:D:D:D:D Best freakin' £1800 gamble I've taken with tech in my life.
