LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Bah unlucky mrk :( At least it looks like you might be able to fix it yourself... Hopefully it is rather easy to do!

Hopefully the new one being sent will be perfect ;)

BTW, what did you use to remove the glossy plastic strip? Going to do the same with mine as well as the stand :D

Yeah it comes with a 1 metre DisplayPort cable.

Okay check this out, how hard could it have been for the LG tech to just loosen the screws on the housing internals a bit to remove this bleed, look at the below gif, I simply pressed the lower bezel in to get bleed coming through. Notice the right side at the end, the tightness of the screws must be perfect there... How easy is it to open these monitors up to DIY adjust the screws holding the panel to the casing? When the new monitor comes this week I'm tempted to try loosening the left lower side myself in an effort to do what LG neglected to do during QC!

If it really is as simple as adjusting the screws holding the panel on then **** it I'd rather do it myself.

been lurking with interest and also in the hope you got this sorted ! the other day i nearly replied and asked if you had tried losening the crews around the bezel etc,

but thought better of it as your all switch on kiddies on here :)

i had an LG led telly and as such on the AVforums owners thread and aload of us there did exactly that, and it got rid of quite a lot of bleed thru for me,

they must use Car building rebots to put this things together what abunch of muppets LG are .. but to be fair thou, my last 4 Tvs have been Lg and just best of a bad bunch really

hope you get it all sorted mate

If people on AVF have been opening up their TV sets and adjusting the screws then there's no reason why this monitor cannot have the same done to it, alright I will set Sunday aside to give it a good old rogering :p

Two things can be used, black matte electrical tape and then craft knife away the excess that feeds into the small gap between chrome bezel and panel (best option :p) or Tesco branded black scouring pad and repeated sideways motions to get a matte brushed finish.

Ok thanks. Just looking at my monitor, don't think I can remove the front glossy part...

By doing this, would it void the warranty?(considering it is just a cosmetic change, I don't think it would but just to be sure :p)

You're not taking anything apart, it's no different to sticking custom stickers on a product, makes no difference to the internals covered by the warranty!

Edit*
Is the service manual online anywhere?

that looks more like poor build quality than assembly, if its that flimsy a change of temp ect could make the problem re-appear. I wish they would spend more time on build and less on building the thin surrounds on these, it looks to me like another case of form before function. I will look elseware
for my next monitor

Yes there's a significant difference between the 29" and the 34" having used the 29" the past month or so.

The 29" is excellent in all regards but the 34" at 1440P does something no other monitor I have seen does and that is it fully pulls you in and everything you do with it is just better.

Like in Fight Club when he's telling the clerk that the next morning his breakfast will taste better than ever before, the same applies here. Except it's not breakfast :p

I am going out for a month on a boat and will be back at the start of September. Can't buy it before that incase something is wrong with. Hopefully it will have dropped further in price by then or aoc one is out and it is good.

Trying to convince the IT manager to buy it for the workstations. Not convinced him yet. Might have to order him as I am his line manager :D If I had problems with mine, I could always swap it with a work one :p

Fantastic looking screens!

Sorry I haven't managed to read the entire thread LOL but:

What are the odds this 21:9 format will take off enough to become relatively mainstream? And how will that affect end-user prices by next year? Being so new, they are expensive (to me at least) and more than double the price of a cheap 4k screen (though I'd much prefer one of these)...

Cheers

It’s the natural aspect ratio for movies so it’s actually been mainstream for many many years already. It’s only now that these monitors are out that people are realising just how much more immersive not having black bars top and bottom like on a 16:9 screen is for multimedia and in the case of tehse 34” 1440P displays, the extra screen estate for desktop multitasking.
