LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Actually, I am thinking of another stand which costs £30 :)

I have used one before, and it's pretty solid, plus wouldn't have to fiddle on with attaching t desk.

Have always liked the look of the ergotron stands though... anyway, a purchase for another day :)

Actually, gibbo, in case you pop in here again, can you go over to the GTX 970 owners thread and clarify about warranty on Galax cards and cooler removal for WC?

Can someone clarify what streaming video (Youtube / Netflix / film rental etc.) looks like in full screen?

Do they fill up the screen, or do you see horizontal or vertical black bars?

I believe Netflix forces letterboxing/windowboxing on you but Youtube will adapt to however the content was uploaded. Playing this will fill the entire screen as it's been authored and uploaded the correct aspect ratio of 2.39:1. Playing this though you get pillarbox bars left and right because the content has been authored in 16:9 aspect ratio only.

So my monitor arrived yesterday - Really like the looks but I'm concerned about the backlight bleed I'm seeing.

Can I get some opinions? Just took a quick picture, If anything this understates the two top corners in particular. This is set to 10% brightness.

How bad is it compared to that photo? The photo itself appears to be a slightly longer exposure that exaggerates the effect - Just one of the downsides to camera sensors really. You could try unclipping both lower corner trims of the bezel by wedging a plastic flat piece between bezel and trim and levering it out slowly. That will reduce or remove the bleed in those corners.

You could return it for a swap but you might get one back with top corner bleed which cannot be fixed by the user sadly.

I'd say the photo is actually pretty close to the reality - if anything it looks better in the top corners in this photo than in person.

I would have thought you could expect less noticeable bleed for such an expensive monitor. I probably should spend more time with it first before deciding but thought I should get some opinions.

It does seem luck of the draw. Some have gotten excellent bleed levels, others not so much. My first ended up bad but the 2ndone is excellent

Don't want to be seeing that. Am so nervous about mine coming today.

I hate buying monitors. If mine turns out to be bad I will be returning and sticking with my current multi-monitor setup. At over £700 I won't be putting up with much in the way of flaws, and don't want to get stuck in the loop of buying, testing, returning, rinse/repeat.

Screens are just the worst thing to buy...

Yup this is why I've told myself I'm not buying another monitor until OLED is out. No need to worry about bleed then and we will only be judging an OLED screen in terms of response and picture quality. Backlights will be a thing of the past.

Yea - it really is disappointing to see this many issues for such an expensive item.

I'll spend some more time with it tonight before I decide what to do.

mrk - honest question, would you return it if that was your monitor?

I did return the original one and ended up with a refund on that :p The free one though? The free one is almost perfect so I wouldn;t return that if I had paid for it.

I was going to buy this monitor and I'm so relieved I didn't as all these horror stories have put me right off

I went on and bought the new Dell u2415 1920x1200 and will get the bigger 27 " version when it's released in Europe. I might of been swayed to buy the LG if OC had offered the same pixel guarantee etc that they give with the rog swift

Depending on what I decide after spending more time with it, I'm not sure whether to ask for a refund or go for a replacement. I don't particularly want to engage in a lengthy process of trying to get an 'acceptable' monitor.

That being said - there just really aren't any alternatives at the moment if this the type of screen you want.

Wow!

Actually one of the best screens I have ever had for backlight uniformity! It's incredible!

And can't see any dead pixels - not going to look any harder than I have!

I don't think I am going to miss triple screens!
