LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

that's not backlight bleed, that's IPS glow. yes, it looks horrible, but it's not that bad. it's overexagerrated, by a crappy phone camera, which over exposes the whole picture. also, taken with maxed out brightness and contrast, which you will never have with normal usage, if you value your eyes.

i wish people stopped overreacting to these pictures :)

go ahead, take your 27" IPS monitor, black screen, black room, max brightness and contrast, take a crappy overexposing phone camera and take a picture. you will be surprised.

I know IPS glow is a thing, but I can't imagine it being that bad. Hmm, I will give it a go on my HP IPS monitor tonight.

Never tried a higher-than-60Hz monitor myself. So I'm currently not sure what the fuss is about. Though with anything visual you can never dismiss it until you've seen it. It's like with games; screenshots always look dreadful until you see the game in motion.

@Mrk So you know you want to host your images somewhere so I have something to put on my desktop when the monitor arrives, right? :) Edit: just had a look at your Flickr, damn I love the variety in your style and choice of subjects.

Someone over on HardForum just took delivery of his monitor and it appeared to have some major backlight QC issues. I hope OCUK would honour returns if the thing looks like that.

Nope as its simply not faulty, as already stated it is IPS glow which will look nowhere near as bad in person, photo makes it look way worse.

You could return under DSR of course, but not as an RMA.

Yeah brightness/contrast down to keep luminance at a safe non fatiguing level and you're never going to suffer backlight bleed really on most screens. Most people just aren't familiar with IPS tinge effects which become invisible to your brain quite quickly.

Heh I'll think about it and thanks!

It's wider than I ever imagined!!!

Coming from a 27 inch 1080p the PPI is spot on. Apologies for horrid photo quality (Moto G)

I'm astounded by the colours. Has been a long while since I used an IPS display. Cinema setting seems to be bang on. No arduous calibration session required.

Browsing pages do look rather lonely if you only have one window taking up all the screen. 2 windows is almost mandatory.

btw. what's is your graphics card? i have a single OCed 680, hoping i can drive this monitor with it at least until the 800 series is out.

Wow that's pretty. Going to rock out on Diablo 3 when I get mine too, I think. Are you using the WideScreenGaming fix?

I'd been having huge amounts of stuttering in D3 for a while now, and got frustrated and stopped playing a couple of weeks ago. Seems there's been a patch perhaps because I fired it up last night and it was buttery smooth. GTX 780 here.

Do I keep my Asus 29"? Or get this.

That's what I'm thinking (Dell 29 super wide owner here). Is yours the 2560 x 1080 ?

Is the LG really worth twice as much? Also it's getting hard enough to power 2560 x 1080 at 60 fps for some games, let alone 3440 x 1440. No way I'm upgrading my pair of Tis for quite a while.

Congrats on the purchase fella! Where did you get it from?

Also, any chance you could do me a massive favour and see if yours overclocks at all. Does it get to 75Hz??

Yeah I have the 2560x1080 Asus Sonic Master, I really like it to be honest, the price difference over say the Hazro to me was worth it for the build quality and aesthetics.

The base on the Asus is truly quality.

I'm finding myself having to work around 21:9 though, my most of my 16:9 content, I'm just streaming to my Tablet or Ultrabook.

Games that work in 21:9 properly at 2560x1080 are immense to play.

I was VERY impressed and surprised that streaming like that via Steam to my Ultrabook resulted in it maintaining 21:9, although at 1920x800, that was quite impressive (Although as you can imagine, black barred, but still very playable)

And then games which don't work properly, I can just use steam streaming at 1920x1080 to my tablet to avoid stretching or black bars entirely.

What games are those you can't run at 2560x1080?

I have a single 780 and have no trouble with games maxed at 2560x1440.

Not saying I can't run them at 2560 x 1080 ;) BUT....

Skyrim ENB modded, Crysis 3 at max details (though not max AA), Assassins Creed 4 maxed - these are just 3 examples of games that already push my 2 780 Ti's to their limits. This is for a constant vysnced 60 frames a second though. Some people are happy to have less than 60, I'm not unfortunately. I cannot stand any sort of judder or frame skip and can't play with vysnc off due to tearing. This is why I want a gsync panel.

My 2nd display just died, was going to get a cheap 1080p replacement but then saw this and the 4k AOC...

Really should stop coming here, too many shiny new things to tempt me! :D

Genuine question, how will peoples necks be long term use for that? Like graphic design/photo editing anything that requires long hours. Obviously one will require regular breaks but that seems so wide! Like Tennis head moving in an exaggerated way.

Palette layouts must be so awesome! Hopefully mrk can post up Photoshop/Lightroom layouts.

That DisplayPort cable I linked to earlier arrived today. It's very thick and ends seem to be of decent quality. Works fine as hinted at by Kona at 1440P on the 27".

I also found a short Mickey Mouse power cable at work.

So far so good then :D

Ah yes, those games will tax most systems even SLI configured so nothing new there :p It could be argued as to the optimisations of Crysis as well :D
