LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Ah sack.

Thought I'd talked myself out of this monitor and then see this news.

I'm trying really hard not to get this or the ROG Swift yet. I really want Gsync but being a dell u29 owner I'm now used to and loving 21:9 gaming, and if it can overclock a bit I don't think i need 120 hz.

When will other monitors start shipping with Gysnc in, and are people on here bothered about it?

Anyway, if you're an nvidia card user and gamer, then I think right now is probably a daft time to get a new monitor. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. Wait a few months for gsync to start being built into monitors would be my best advice.

Not sure I can follow my own advice though. I bet I have one of these LG's within a month ;)

Most monitors won't have Gsync though, as its an extra cost, which doesn't give a benefit to the majority of potential customers, so it will be an extra in premium people won't be willing to pay.
 
Just looked it up, so essentially a fully automated hardware v-sync method without the drawbacks of current v-sync.

Not that I ever use v-sync in games anyway (GTX780) and don't experience tearing issues in the games I play. I can't see G-Sync being something I look for at all in a monitor.

Not only that, it will also smooth out frames when they don't reach the screen fast enough from the GPU. So you experience less stutter overall.

Then again, if adaptive vsync is doing its job, it shouldn't be much of an issue. Just that extra silky smoothness, yknow?

Thing is, AMD are trying to push an alternative called FreeSync, which uses the VBLANK command built into the DisplayPort 1.2a standard. It's effectively the same thing, but without NVIDIA's premium on top. And you can bet your butt that NVIDIA are ****ed their innovation has already been superseded. So I'd wait a little longer than for GSync monitors, as eventually all will support FreeSync. NVIDIA themselves said they'd be willing to adopt it if that's the way the market goes, which means it will.
 
So freesync - don't know much about this. Seems like it requires Displayport 1.2a

My current Dell monitor has displayport 1.2 far as I know. What about the 'a' part though? And do/ will my 780Ti's support 1.2a, and therefore freesync or will this require a whole heap of upgrades? If so might as well go the nvidia Gsync route.

Ah, I didn't realise that it had already shipped.

Can't remember the last time I wanted some hardware so badly whilst my brain was telling me not to spooge the cash. Looking forward to some quality pictures and a good review mrk! Gay porn in 21:9...sweeeeeet ;)

Yeah, honestly I don't know either. 1.2a is draft atm, so it could be the case that we have to wait for the next series of cards to even be able to support it.
 
I'm going to have to get used to not having webpages on a portrait monitor, at present I have a 24" 1920x1200 in use for web browsing as it's like a newspaper, ideal for reading on etc. Still, should be great on 21:9 1440p with multiple windows side byb sid.
