LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

I did notice that BenQ and it's definitely one to look at I'd say, looks brilliant and a VA panel too so no IPS glow. Be interesting to know what it's like. At 13KG it's one heavy beast though, 16KG gross weight!!

Not stretched, those were just zoomed in and they work well at 21:9 still!
But you lose a lot of the image though as they are framed @ 1.85.1 vs 21:9 surely?

If you have a moment please can you post some screenshots of Aliens & BTTF1 showing before/after you zoom I am curious to see how much image gets lost.

Sorry to be a pain but thanks in advance if you can do this I am still mulling over getting one due to issues I had before with 21:9 not being supported in many games & the difference in aspect ratios being framed @ 21:9.

I'll post comparisons up tonight but it does depend on the film. Some films that are 16:9 or not 21:9 have stuff happening mostly in the central aspect of the screen so zooming to fill 21:9 on those works fine, you don't lose much of the film, just some extra scenery top and bottom I guess.

Other films may not work so well.

Oh looking at the BenQ32 pics it looks like the default stand supports Portrait mode. Thats unheard off in such a large monitor ! I use a Dell u3011 in portrait and its amazing for webpages.

Pics and thoughts once it's usually and running!

I said this before but magazines and websites in portrait are really nice to read and it's really the only thing I'll be missing now though I guess with pushbullet I can just send those instantly to my Tab if it's a long article to read :p

So what cable is required for 10-bit and 60hz on these monitors or is the correct cable for that bundled with it?

It's supposed to be bundled! But their website did say that depends on territory. If it doesn't have one I'm going to facepalm, very hard.

Thanks fellas. That cable may be a bit short, will have to do some measuring. Otherwise I'm pretty sold on one of these, seems perfect for Ps/Lr/Br (app windows open side-by-side, colour range) and I'd get some extra fov for ArmA III etc. I take it the thunderbolt connection will be usable with my laptop (Mac).

Will have to see what pennies are left after I've been to Mull.

Ok thanks for doing this mate I am curious to see how much is lost overall.

PowerDVD13 does not play BD movies @ 2.35.1 on a 21:9 you have to use another media player to fill the screen but Arcsoft do a media player which will handle BD discs @ 21:9 full screen.

Well I caved and picked up a 34UM65 earlier!! Been setup 30mins and LOVE it so far!! VLC does a cool thing where it can auto crop to 2:35:1 and that's doing me great for TV shows :) (Movies seem to be fine at native, no black bars)

Glad I went for it, don't need the Pro features of the 95 and this will be tonnes less stressful on the gfx :D

Will throw up some pics once I have everything tidied and setup properly

Dude even though I have issues with 21:9 games support you have no idea how much I am fighting the buy button impulse for over a week now on that screen ;)

Dude you should do reviews like MKHD! LG Should hire you after this.

It has crossed my a few times! I'm working on getting something together with reviews in a similar fashion so fingers crossed it all works out :p
