LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Ok been on DisplayPort 1.2 for a few hours now and only seen 2 flickers in Windows. In games like Grid 2 that switched to 50Hz with Vsync on when not using DisplayPort 1.2 still switches to 50Hz.

I've been using displayport 1.2 for a few days now but today it started to flicker quite badly. Rebooted and was ok. However switched on again now and flickering again so have disabled DP 1.2 for now.

what's the function of 1.2 over DP ?

The answer to that is currently still up in the air :p
Since my post you've quoted above I have seen a few flickers though still, maybe 1 or 2 every couple of days and it only seems to be while the monitor is still cold (on for < 30mins). Nothing major, I just leave it on anyway.

It has never flickered in games though or during videos. Only on the desktop.

not sure about videos or games - didn't check. It was quite distracting on the browser though !

I have updated my AMD drivers to latest stable but although successfully installed catalyst control centre doesn't open when I run it from start menu ? Before I did this update it ran but the discard / apply buttons were weidly permanently flashing.

Will put 1.2 back on tomorrow and we'll see whether the driver update has fixed the problem. I suppose though if there's no need for them then no biggie

Not sure if this is helpful but. I'm using the monitor on a Mac pro with boot camp using windows 8.1. The flicker was driving me mad. I didn't do it in games but it did it all the time on the desktop and when i scrolled the mouse wheel (wtf)

Anyhow as far as I remember the issue still remained with dp 1.2 turned off. BUT I decided to install the latest AMD catalyst 14.4 divers and bosh. Fixed and working perfectly.

Also I would reinstall drivers if the control centre doesn't appear.

Tell you something. I've had more issues with windows 8 in 1 week they I have with osx in 5 Years.

I can't speak for the 29" model as it's a different panel but the 34UM95 is fine for gaming. I've got no problem with FPS games online or single player. Play TF2 several nights a week and can easily maintain top half of the scoreboard, multiple headshots/through & through with sniper etc. It's 5ms so not that far off from your 2ms.

yeah and ive been playing the new wolfenstein. Works perfect at 3440x1440! and most settings on ultra/high

also, titanfall works fine. CS: GO is also flawless.

So any news of more stock of the UM95? Thought it was supposed to be this week. My credit card has been charged for over two weeks now. Just an impatient sod. Any updates would be good. Cheers

Thanks mrk, it's just the 14ms response time of the 29um65 that is holding me back now.

I realise you don't have that model, so I'm hanging on to see what nexus and others have to say about gaming on it before clicking buy.

Just spoke to overclockers and no real updated date on when these will arrive, it's a shame really as I wanted to play with it this weekend but we will just have to wait.

IIRC Linus said the response time is 5ms and that he found the 29" more snappier than the 34" monitor.

And here is anandtech's review of the 29ea93 for response time (apparently uses the same panel):

From my brief time with the lg (tried bf 4/bf 3 out for a few hours), it seemed pretty good to me (compared to a dell u2311h)

I contacted Overclockers today via webnote because the LG website lists the response time as 14ms. They replied agreeing that the website was correct and they would update this site to reflect the correct value.

However, I know that the response time can be altered via a menu option so I'm still waiting to see how people get on with it :)
