LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

This is the backlight bleed on the bottom and top left.

20% brightness:

100% brightness:

Had a skim through some "dark" film scenes i.e. gravity and it rather noticeable.

What do you guys think? Replace or not?

That is pretty terrible, the last restock for this monitor came and went (16/05/14) but I unfortunately was not far enough up the queue to have my order fulfilled.

If I receive a monitor that looks even remotely similar to yours in terms of backlight bleed/IPS glow it will be going straight back.

I hope Overclockers are straight shooters and return that panel of yours to LG for replacement rather than send it out to a customer like myself. It is entirely too much money to spend to receive a used and most likely faulty unit.

I will autograph it for you! :D

:p

On a more serious note though, I got the 29" monitor, not the 34" one (although back light bleed can occur on any LCD screen of any size)

Posting here because this thread is popular and both monitors are kind of similar :p

Thanks for the response, happy to hear it is the 29" model as it won't end up on my desk!

To be honest the last decent monitor I bought was back in 2006, a high end Dell ultrasharp 24" so I've not experienced IPS panels, I'm prepared for some bleed/glow but if it's very noticeable in dark movies/games it really isn't going to be worth £800+

I have a newer 27" Viewsonic monitor but it was mid spec and I didn't take much care with the purchase, I just needed an additional screen for web browsing.

There are several online retailers with plenty of stock, I'm obviously talking about the 29UM65 as that's the one in this thread with backlight bleed.

Out of curiosity, how is dark content on this in a lowly lit room with black levels. Low glow? Since mrk has his X-Right, see if you can get a live reading with HCFR v3.1.1 on a full black screen with the built in patterns…

Name some that have it in stock then plz ?

Again I'm talking about the 29UM65 as that's the one Nexus is having the backlight bleed problems with.

As much as I'd love to name some, I think they understandably frown upon mentioning competitors here, so google is your friend.

There are a couple of 34UM95's with similar problems back a few pages, though I did talk to OCUK via webnote and they confirmed none had been returned, at least not yet.

EDIT : Page 27 a post by Kael13.

HCFR confused me, I just barely found the contrast test in it. For a program made by users it is hardly user friendly and I'm usually quite competent with this stuff!

Black levels are very good, pretty much how i've photographed the screen playing movies in dark scenes is how I see them when sat in front of it to give you an idea.

Oops, I managed to miss that, thanks for the heads up ;)

This looks like a great monitor to watch movies on however I can never feel comfortable sitting at a desk for 2 hours, does anyone else have this problem?

Yes. Dead arse. Haven't done it since the mid 00s. Love to watch movies with legs up straight out and crossed, arms folded and leaning back.
