LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

bmad: don't spam so much!!!!! 40 posts in 7 years ? :D
where to get elite beta?

Sorry. Only really just getting involved in the forum stuff. Elite beta was released today. It's 100 notes which sounds horrendous but is actually good value with what you get. It's a long term thing! Quite excited about being part of its development too!

If it were me, I would sell both, get this and then just buy a cheapish <22" screen.

It entirely depends what you use the second screen for though, main reason I still have it is for teamspeak when playing bf 4 (some use the chatbox during game, handy to see who has joined the channel etc.) If I didn't game, I probably not bother with a second screen.

I dont use my second screen for anything if I'm playing. I don't really play online (terrible connection)

On one screen I may have excel, Web page and on other vbasic and Outlook
That's what I usually use them for

I think for sure it would be better for games as current the bezels of each monitor are in front of my eyes.

Edit. Price has indeed gone up and a lot of reviews do seem mediocre
Think I'll wait for price to drop and more reviews too

Not blaming OCUK as they are somewhat at the mercy of the suppliers.

However, I must admit the constant delays have given me chance to rethink the purchase.

It's a decent display but I'm seeing a lot of very mediocre reviews for it and whilst I would still be very happy to own it if I have the patience it will most likely be bettered before the year is out.

It's not a trivial amount of money and therefore any quality issues are a concern.

+1

I was champing at the bit to get this monitor and even listed some stuff on the bay to raise some extra funds but this delay has given me time to reflect and I think I'll stay with my Sammy which is a beautiful monitor and I love the PLS panel. I was getting caught up in the whole 34 inch 21:9 hype.

Will wait for alternatives or a significant price drop...or indeed further and more in depth reviews.

Mulled it over, as long as there are no bleed/backlight issues like some of the users have reported I'm going to keep my order for this monitor.

It's pretty expensive but I have desk space for two of these, I'll probably get a higher quality one later on for gaming and move this one to movies only.

Rumours in US are LG is looking at the backlighting issues which are causing the delay which in the US is 30th June for more stock expected.
Someone posted a pic in this thread with massive backlight bleed @ 10% brightness

Not sure if this affects UK as nowhere has the 65 or 95 right now which are new stock not RMAed from the first batch. LG must know where there stock is though

I think the delay must be more about production issues before they produce more stock as its expensive to keep RMAing screens with backlight issues for both the etailers & LG.

Am seriously considering the UM95 version of this but am concerned about driving it properly.

Would two 7950s in crossfire drive these without an issue? Typical games are the latest stuff, so BF4/Watchdogs etc, but I'm happy to drop the quality from Ultra to High ;) :P

Hmmmmm not good that AWPC :(

If my replacement 29" monitor is no better for back light then I will just hold of for a while or get something else.

I personally think you'll be fine! It's only around 36% more pixels than a normal 1440p, and still a lot less than 4K.

Mrk has bee playing everything brilliantly with a single GTX 780, so you'll be fine as long as you don'y max everything at Ultra.

Sure just scroll down a bit for someone else's monitor and there's almost no issue bar the tiniest of dot on the bottom.

This looks brilliant really, it seems most for the big releases so far support this aspect without issue.

Although I don't mind waiting for a better batch without issues. Even the Asus 4K i was looking at was a disaster first batch. Something else that shouldn't have happened.
Plus WWDC is tonight, and I wonder if Apple might finally update or launch a new Display.

Yup no problem here with new games. Completed Wolfenstein last week gaming at native res on Ultra settings. FPS was around the 40s most places. High indoors, a bit lower in some other areas but games like that are so fluid anyway you don't notice much variance as long as it's in the 40s or above mostly.

Edit*
Last night I took a photo at high ISO to accentuate the backlight/glow to give you guys a better look at what mine is like outside of normal viewing. The blacks looking pale is not as noticeable in reality as the picture shows, I've used ISO 8000 and a stable shutter speed to show the difference in the corners:

You can see the orange glow on the lower corners. If I move around the screen the glow follows the width of the panel so it's definitely IPS tinge and not backlight bleed. If I crouch into a lower position below the monitor the glow appears on the top corners. Seems to be standard having seen the same on previous IPS screens.

I messaged (livechat on their site) LG with the same photo and the guy said their tech had a look and said that was within normal tolerance for an LCD. You guys who have way worse bleed levels should livechat with LG support and send over a photo to see what they say too!

That looks completely different to your other photo mrk! :p IMO that looks more like backlight bleed than the IPS glow/tinge (although as you know yourself, it is very hard to judge screens by photos)

What brightness was the monitor set to?

OCUK should have received my monitor about now. I would be quite shocked if they got back to me saying that mine was within "normal tolerance level", if that does happen, I will just get a refund then.

Yeah I would be happy with that monitor!

Not too bothered about it being noticeable on pure black screens, however, when it affects dark films/games then it is unacceptable.

Yeah my other photos are taken to reflect how it looks in actual use satin front of it. As I said, the above is taken to accentuate what the camera picks up and at very high iso. To the eyes it seems normal and no different to my previous Dell U2713HM.

I wanted to take the above picture to show it's never going to be 100% perfect but still good enough in actual use to our eyes!

Agreed. Then again we all have to remember that people with issues are always more vocal and post things than those without.

This monitor was rather prevalent over on r/battlestations and it was only praises there for it.

I've someone buying my old workstation tomorrow hopefully, so unless Apple pull a magic new Thunderbolt matte display out at WWDC tonight, I'm ordering one of these.

My only concern bar possible backlight bleed, is how the aspect ratio will play with Screenflow for doing screen casting recordings.

Do the Apple cinema displays work without issue on PCs then? Always wondered this as they seem to be fully controlled by OSX and have minimal OSD controls.

The current ones are all Thunderbolt, so that's where the issues are.
The previous Mini-display port ones had no issues at all.

The LG has full Mac compatibility through all ports, including the Thunderbolt 2, which is one of the reasons I want it.

We'll have to see what Apple do, if they even do anything. Although I can't stand that all their displays are now Glossy, without even an option for matte anti-glare.
