LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

LG having stock issues is good news really it means those of us waiting to buy can ensure there is more than enough stock if LG send a few dud slipped through QA cough cough  models into the retail channel.

I expect a flawless screen I can live with a little IPS glow but that's about it for the money it has to be almost perfect. So when plenty of stock is in the retail channel you should not get any delays in RMA replacements but it worries me they shipped some of the cheaper 29" screens without proper QA

Impressive spec and it is sure to be cheaper than the LG by a margin given there's no Thunderbolt. I wonder how much! The panel looks like it's the same LG panel and the front casing design looks the same as well just badged AOC. NO mention of hardware LUT either.

That stand is welcome for many.

Yup, overall it looks better bar that missing TB connections, and LUT. :(

Depending on the price though, I might get it and just use mini-DP to DP.

If the AOC 29" i recieved is anything to judge them by stay away unless you really want a bargain. They seem to not seal boxes or clean screens nor do they cover with protective film. And the UK plug i had was black with white marks on it and you could tell it had a few nicks and knocks on it.

I made the rainforest pay to come collect it that is how mad i was at AOC. When it comes to 34 inches of near £800 goodness i would stick to Dell or LG but mrk upset me by telling us he had to clean his monitor as well. How hard can it be for them to pre clean and seal with a protective film that costs a few pence? Call me whatever but if that happens when i order one i will be making them come collect it at thier own cost again!

That's the complete opposite of what I've experienced with my AOC 23" IPS monitor. It was in top notch condition, and better quality by far than my previous Hazro and Acer monitors.

I didn't? Mine had no marks or anything on it at all. It was pristine. What I did have to clean was the residue left over when I removed the Energy Star sticker off the glossy part of the bezel.

Yea i meant to type Nexus not you mrk as he was the only person posting about a monitor being in bad condition. But now you are on it, What kind of residue was left from those damm Energy Star stickers? Is it a mild glue and how did you wipe it off gloss? And did your LG have the screen film?

Nexus doesn't have the 34", he has the 29"!

The residue is the same stuff left by any sticker, just wipe it clean with moist cloth and some cleaning solution instead of dry like I did... More user error there.

Correct. A couple of films I have appear to fill 100% but look really close and you'll notice that about 0.5cm or less letterbox exists top and bottom and I think that's largely due to the way the video has been compiled and cropped over anything else as official sources fill perfectly such as trailers in native cinematic aspect ratio.

Still no ETA on the second batch of 34UM95 that Gibbo said was due this week. I don't know whether to just get a Samsung 4K and pocket the £300 difference back. :(:(:(

I really wouldn't bother with a 4k monitor now. Only real reason for one is to claim you have a 4K monitor in the grand scheme of things. They're too small physically to be useful at that resolution and ones that are closer to the 30" mark are lol price which is equally silly.

Plus the scaling issues in windows, bad TN panels, and those signal drops on the Asus ones.
The current TN 4K displays also have graphical glitching on the right side of the monitor in OSX with AMD cards. :(

I'd like an IPS one, but they use MST, and cost far too much.

Isn't the 4k scaling issue resolved in windows 8.1 ?
Ips 4k panels won't become affordable anytime soon. I saw the Linus review he said the TN panel wasn't too bad. I hope it isn't like the old day TN panels. Haven't had a non ips panel in a long time :-(

Some idiot in a reddit thread tried to argue that a 4k screen was better because it was higher resolution and cheaper and said "why would you pay more for less" in relation to a 34" 21:9.

Peoole can be stupid :p

Linus isn't really that in-depth sadly, and there are so many conflicting reports on these monitors. Everything from washed out colours to people claiming it's as good as IPS ( which is BS I'd say ).

Plus the signal drops on display port for the Asus ones are horrible, along with electrical popping noises. Those displays are still not in stock after that.

I really wanted one, but I don't think moving to TN from IPS will be good. :(

Oh man, those things are everywhere. I would like 4K, I really do. There's just too many issues for me.

Working in FCPX with a TN panel would be mental, despite the larger resolution and having great scaling in OSX.

The LG 34" just can't come back soon enough, the same for the new AOC version. For productivity, gaming, and movies these seem perfect.
Only issue is the horrible YouTube player not being dynamic and scalable, so I'll get back letter boxing on uploaded videos if I upload in 21:9.

You won't get letterboxing anywhere in the video if you upload 21:9 :) I have videos up of games being played at half native res and they fill the screen when played back on YouTube.

It's only videos where the author has done a bad job where you get letterboxing or if the video is natively 16:9 or 4:3 in which case you get windowboxing.
