LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

The U3415W yes, seems it will use the same LG panel but will likely be driven/specced slightly differently much like how AOC have done with their version. Expect it to cost more!

An X-Rite Colormunki is the one to go for.

Glad you got such a good quality unit, now I can't wait for mine. Going back to 16x10 has been horrible.

I want 32GB RAM now having seen your sig, 16GB just seems tiny :o

Get on that mate! I sometimes end up with some swaps/paging in rare cases.

Also I'm just reading up on the X-Rite Colormunki Display, and it seems so darn easy to use for the benefits it has.

I wanted a new desk, but I'll get my monitor sorted out with this first. :D

It's the exact same probe as the i1Display Pro just the software package is restricted within it. Since you'll be using it only on the LG monitor with hardware LUT you won't be touching the X-Rite software so makes sense to pay less for the Munki :)

Going to check out current RAM prices and see what's what, been out of it for a while.

So I don't need to install their software? I take it there are settings in the LG OSD then?

The LG True Color Finder software comes with drivers for the most popular probes so yeah no need to install anything from X-Rite. If you do then it will complain there is conflicting software installed anyway. The LG software controls the OSD during calibration.

That is fantastic! Thanks a bunch Mrk!

Since they're actively marketing it as for my Mac Pro, I hope the LG calibration software is also compatible, as it would rather defeat the purpose of selling it a Pro monitor for it. :D

The fact that it's hardware based in the monitor is a massive plus, especially if you boot between two OSes a lot

Thanks, appreciate all the info from this thread, I've been out of touch for quit e awhile. Always done monitor calibration on the fly.

Hope your replacement arrives soon.

That and use different input sources like games consoles, Settop boxes etc :)

Does anyone know what the "-P" suffix is on these? I see some sites marketing as 34UM65/34UM95 and some as 34UM65-P/34UM95-P. Is this just pure laziness or is there actually a subtle difference?

The full designation is 34UM95-P (or 34UM65-P) but it is often shortened to 34UM95 (or 34UM65). It's the same monitor.

Ok, I think someone needs to get the hand puppets out for me on this one.

I think you are referring to some kind of calibration but I am completely failing to see the significance.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

For the most accurate colours you plug in a calibration device and run the software and let it calibrate the screen. All screens are different and panels shift over time so re-calibration is recommended every few months to account for panel shift. In the CCFL days the backlight would shift and fade too but with LED backlights these days that's less of an issue.

You don't need one if you're not doing colour critical work but it's nice to have one anyway as you get the most out of a screen like this or any IPS screen really. you pay good money for a nice monitor, it deserves to be displaying accurate colours.

I guess it would also be nice to do if you have more than one monitor and you want the colours to match on the 2 or 3 monitors?
