LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Bailey has just confirmed what you said, and that my webnotes were entirely pork based.

Thought they would be :p

I just hope the extra wait is worth it i.e. getting a monitor with no back light bleed etc.

Obviously something wrong with the batch they will not want to ship if they need RMAing due to a known fault. Same as in US there is no stock until end of June now. Its far cheaper to fix these before they leave LG to the retail channels otherwise the RMA delivery costs will wipe out most of the profit margin.

True.

I just messaged Bailey asking if there was any reason for LG withholding the shipments and he said no reason yet, just awaiting confirmation to release them.

I am in no rush to get mine but at the same time, I don't really want to wait 2+ weeks...... :p

Hmmm why the LG delay to ship product so the consumer can buy it when the demand is there surely you would ship ASAP supply & demand 101 & all that.....if there was not an issue somewhere that is ;)

Yup I'm sure they will get the issues sorted out and continue to do so for those who get issues down the line as I'm sure some will appear as no product is 100% perfect at all times.

In light of that though, have some more pictures :D

This time TF2 in all it's action glory. Game just looks so good when the heat is on:

And some folks on other threads were mentioning how IPS lag affects their gaming, well I have one thing to say to them, a bad workman always blames his tools :p :D

I may have missed this but are you using the Antec 6 LED kit? 2 by the looks of it?

The LG True Color Finder software comes with drivers for the most popular probes so yeah no need to install anything from X-Rite. If you do then it will complain there is conflicting software installed anyway. The LG software controls the OSD during calibration.

Interesting, 80cd^m2. Any information on the calibrated contrast ratio?

From what I've read a monitor with a hardware lut can produce higher quality colours with less or no banding Indeed I've not seen any gradient banding yet. My U2713HM had minor banding in some colour gradients by comparison.

The other big benefit is that the calibration doesn't rely on GFX card and as such doesn't need am ice profile to tell the GFX card what to send to the monitor. During the calibration process you don't need to adjust anything on the osd either as the software does all that for you them locks the osd the settings for those areas from accidental change.

Thanks, that clears things up considerably.

Trying to assess whether it's worth bothering with a calibrator as I don't do any pro work.

Though I'd say I prefer punchy (but not too contrasty), semi-accurate colours over complete accuracy.

I've been on the fence about the calibrator, it's taken me the entire weekend settle on manual calibration but I'm sort of there.

Reading mrk's comments though I figure I'l bite the bullet and get a calibrator, I plan to get another one of these monitors in the not too distant future, maybe from another manufacturer so it will benefit me then as well.

Damn bakes0310 that looks awesome! No issues I take it?

The rainforrest reseller has passed their 5 day estimated window to ship my monitor, and not responded to messages. I'll be cancelling tomorrow and asking for a refund, then keeping an eye on OcUK for them to start selling again.

Just two USB powered LED strips, pure white LED version on Amazon. About £6 each.

I posted some info on contrast ratio a while back but essentially the meter reading result was something like 859 for the contrast ratio whereas the lagon contrast ratio test where you upload 2 pictures and their system calculates the average contrast came to 1200.

Weighing in the average between the two the contrast ratio for my screen anyway is nigh on spec for what LG claim.

80cd/m2 for luminance equates to an OSD brightness value of 11 on my screen.

Crazy the length of the taskbar!

Sorry about poor pics but im not very good with the camera. No issues at in these 2 hours, except no screws came with the monitor, luckily too it out of another old monitor.
Does not matter the picture quality is amazing, the blacks are perfect nothing wrong in that area what so ever:)
I was blown away by the 1440p Elysium trailer on youtube mrk posted on here. Seriously when you get the monitor watch it:eek:
Without seeing the framerates there is no performance difference from playing css, wolfenstein, xcom and rome 2 total war. I tried crisis 3 and oh dear...:p But it looked amazing the grass waving in the wind and the scenery its just great.
Looking forward to building my rig and start some serious gaming on it:)

My camera is far away from reach and I only have my laziness to blame and the front facing camera on my phone :o

But on the bright side, I forgot to register mine too and just done so:

You have automatically been entered in the Product Registration Sweepstakes for a chance to win a 55" class (54.6" diagonally) LG 3D Smart TV or Blu-Ray disc player.*

Fingers crossed I win and not bakes0310 :p

:D

Thanks just registered, I didn't get any mention of a prize draw though??

Hi all.

Well i got the UM95 on Saturday. I've had a couple of days to play around with it and I must say I love it. Coming from a 1440p Dell 27 incher I was keeping an open mind about the form factor. I'd never seen such a monitor and knew I'd either love it or hate it.

More importantly all the games I play have supported the resolution natively. Even a few of the older ones work. Amazingly even Lego Marvel Superheroes, played by my 5 year old, supports the higher res natively. This was a big deal for me as I don't like black bars. I can only presume that games from now on will support the 21:9 format as it seems to be growing in popularity.

Quality wise it's absolutely fine. There were no screws in the box for the stand which caused a moments panic but they were a standard size and I found some in my toolbox. Still annoying though. So far no light bleed of any noticeable description and no dead pixels. I've not calibrated the monitor and not sure I will tbh. I'll probably get flamed by the purists here but it looks fine to me. In fact colour reproduction looks nearly identical to my U2711. My eye is not trained at all in this department so the reality is everything is probably way off but as I said, for me it looks lovely!

Lastly input lag is not an issue. I believe this panel is 5ms and frankly I don't have a clue what the Dell I had was but gameplay wise for me nothing has changed other than I can see a whole lot more of my surroundings which is a real bonus. I sit about 2ft from the screen and the edges of the LG just about reach my periphery when i sit right in front of the screen which really adds to the whole immersion thing.

So in conclusion I'm very happy. Obviously it's not a cheap option but in all honesty it's the size and form factor which does it for me. If I were coming from a 1080p screen I think the 34" 1080p variation would be amazing too though i am sure some folk will just not like the form factor. It is very different to what I thought was normal.

If you are sitting on the fence then I say sod it and jump in. If you think you want it then you probably do!!

Just discovered that currently no Blizzard games support 21:9. Doesn't really bother me but looks like, in true Blizzard style, that they don't care much about changing what they think is best.

The only Blizzard game that does not support i believe is Starcraft II because they are dumb and dinosaur enough to think that it is unfair to people who picked 16:9 ratio much like those who adopted 16:9 over 4:3!

World of Warcraft and i believe Diablo III still work according to WSGF Diablo III was meant to remove it for the same SCII reasons but have not yet done so. I think some options like Fullscreen tick boxes are needed like in FC3 but i know for sure WOW is fully 21:9 and will be in future.
