LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Well I have got mine and just finished setting it up and whilst I can't really properly judge till night/darker conditions, this one seems to be pretty good for lack of back light bleed, there is a wee bit visible on the lower left still, will report back later on this area again, however, unfortunately this one has a dead pixel located around the central area :(

Not sure what to do.....

Nexus is that you um65?

It seems the 1080p ones have far more issues, and even then they should never have been there to begin with.

I seriously hope LG sorts this out. The panels are great, and these monitors always seem to sell out but the QC issues are mental.

Yeah the 29UM65

I am going to watch a few clips later and play a few games to see if the dead pixel is noticeable, if it isn't and there is very little back light bleed, I might just keep it as chances are the next one will have terrible back light bleed again :p

I'm connecting to the 34UM95 using a DisplayPort cable with the 1.2 setting turned on. I'll try to lower the built-in speak volume to zero as I use an external pair and see if that stops the popping.

I don't notice any flickering with DP 1.2 enabled.

try setting it so DP1.1, 1.2 on these are for 10-bit colours and apparently unless you have a Quadro or FirePro card you'll get some issues.

actually mrk which LG contact did you use, just incase my decides to mess up.

Someone called Sophie picked up the livechat conversation when I logged into the website, didn't really ring a number or anything!

I've just got home with the 29" LG ultra wide and it sports a matte textured bottom bezel strip, wish the 34" had the same!

The other thing is this 29" came with USB3 cable, MicroHDMI cable AND DVI-D cable. No Displayport though. The 34UM95 only came far less! Talk about prioritising LG!?!

Anyway, this 29" feels too small after the 34", it will do for while my UM95 is away being repaired. There is no orange IPS glow on this, the glow is more pale in colour and appears to be very acceptable and inline with what other IPS monitors I've seen and owned in the past.

You cannot adjust black level on Displayport too, it complains you can only do that over HDMI. I also cannot change the contrast although that rarely needs changing anyway for calibration.

Ah well. The long 7~ days wait begins.

Hmm I nearly bought another 2x Sony FW900's due to the fact LCD's are still a lottery but they were pick up only and in England.

I need a new Monitor as my focus has gone (Flyback tranny) but cannot go this carry on and all other LCD Neg's.

How come you didn't go for the 29EB53, it seems more featurerich than the one you have selected, and the adjustable stand is really good..?

When one of my monitors had a pixel issue (almost central) it bugged the hell out of me until it finally died (it was flashing constantly) but I was still aware of it when it was just stuck. I'm bad enough if the stuck pixel is to the side but not near the middle.!

Bad luck there.

Mainly because it was the newer version and this one was in stock where as that one wasn't at the time of my order and iirc this one was £30 cheaper too.

Adjustable stand is nice to have, however, this one seems good enough for the height etc. and the depth with this stand is very small (my desk depth wise is very small so the further back the monitor can go, the better), I do plan on wall mounting my monitor at some point in the future too.

I think I am going to seek another RMA tbh as considering the price of the monitor, I expect to get a product that hasn't got any defects and now that it is a bit darker, I am noticing back light bleed too (mainly the bottom left corner), certainly not as bad as my last one but still not good enough imo.

Hmm seems the 29EB93 has a hardware LUT?

LG True Color Finder recognised it as well and locked the OSD during calibration as well as auto enabled calibration mode afterwards. No mention of this in any documentation or specsheet.

Fair enough, it just seemed a lower spec, with the Contrast Ratio of 250cd/m² against that of 300cd/m², no USB 3 ports and a less flexible stand. I had paid £250 for my first 29EB53 so it seemed a good enough price for the second.

The backlight bleed, for me, on my second monitor is there but does not, as yet, seem to be an issue with my type of usage and is very similar to what was there on the first. For me to risk changing it for that would probably mean, knowing my luck, that I'll have the same bleed / glow and then introduce a pixel problem or something new to the situation.

I imagine that if the monitor had an aspect ratio of 4:3 the bleed / glow would be less apparent at the corner(s) and so I'm fine with that, as long as it does not get worse.

The panels of the 29EB53 and 29UM65 are the exact same so should the contrast ratio not be the same?

Yup know what you mean! Kind of why I am hesitant about returning this one as I just know with my luck, I will get one which was as bad as my first one for back light bleed :p :(

I posted my pics to the LG tech bod via web chat. He immediately agreed it was unacceptable and has arranged for it to be collected on Monday. It will then take 5 - 7 days to be repaired and returned to me with a brand new panel, properly fitted and checked before being shipped at their expense.

I've decided this is a better approach than rolling the dice on another one via OCUK or elsewhere.

In the mean time I've had time to play around with it some more, and at this price, it's a great piece of kit. Gaming and movies are awesome!

I'll let you know how it turns out ;)

I don't know if the panels, or what is driving them, are the same but I'm only noting the spec on OC's advert which shows that difference in contrast ratio.
What makes you think that they are the same...?

You might want to give consideration to what Figuz did with his monitor, I would tend to think that it would be too risky hoping for anything much different from the rest of the stock that OC supply to think that it could be any better, or worse, for light bleed.

It would be interesting to note what the bleed will be like for those who have returned them for a fix to LG when they return.

That does sound good!

Will see how my panel looks tonight and if I am not happy, reckon I will do the same as you.

Thanks.

Just had a look at the contrast ratio specs are both the same :p

I just hope they completely remove the back light bleed and don't just reduce it to "acceptable standards"

Where did you note the same contrast ratio (nice if they are) as that is not the case on OC's adverts...?

I have not had an IPS screen yet (and mine is more of a budget type) where a certain amount of bleed and glow is noticeable. But it might well be subjective in some cases as to what would be acceptable.
