I have 2 dell U2311H and 1 dell 2209wa in the household and none of them have back light bleed, you get the glow effect when you view it from angles but heads on viewing, they are great.

Doh...! My boo boo, I was looking at the 25" version 25UM65-P and the contrast Ratio of 250cd/m²...!!!

You might want to take a few piccies of the screen and ask the advice of LG to help you make a choice on what you wish to do...?

:D

I was looking at that 25" monitor originally but vertical height is stupidly small!

Yup going to take a couple of photos once it gets dark and post here and then chat to LG and see what they think.

Hmm seems the 29EB93 has a hardware LUT?

LG True Color Finder recognised it as well and locked the OSD during calibration as well as auto enabled calibration mode afterwards. No mention of this in any documentation or specsheet.

says it does on the LG website. I think they all do, the 29ea73 does as well.

Seems fine to me, the 34UM95 may be a little sharper I guess. Colours seem accurate too although out of the box it was quite harsh with brightness and contrast.

15 is too bright!

I like a nice ambient luminance over bright as I tend to edit in dim conditions.

Worth noting that the 29" is a purely 8-bit panel and even so I've not noticed any gradient banding. The Dell U2713HM and U2412M both had banding in some photos where I shot a night sky and the light pollution blended into the sky. Or in movie intro sequences that fade in/out you may notice some banding as the gradients emerge. Not so on these LG screens.

As it is getting darker and darker, I am starting to think that as well now :p

My monitor/pc stuff right beside a velux window with a crappy blind so kind of need the brighter setting for day usage :(

Ah good to hear that! Haven't had a chance to watch films etc. yet but I did notice a bit of banding on my dell u2311h every now and then!

Well, got to the bottom of my problem, LG True Color Finder will not work with any combination of three screens (at least my screens).

Tried the LG34UM95 + Dell 2408WFP-HC fine, connect the third screen (Viewsonic VX2739WM) software will not initialise, tried the LG and the Viewsonic, works fine...add the Dell and the software fails again.

Two is fine, three and it simply does not want to initialise.

Suppose that makes it somewhat useless to me as once I calibrate my LG34UM95 and then reconnect my third monitor the software will fail again, guess I will have to persevere with Colormunki software and try to figure out the advanced setup since easy setup just gives me an extremely dark display.

No end of problems with that LG software, dropped to two monitors just to test what it could do for my LG panel, try as a might could not get it to detect the colormunki calibrator.

Uninstalled and back to colormunki software, hoping to get a good result if I play around with the advanced calibration.

Ok, back light bleed is still pretty bad on this so will contact LG tomorrow and see what they think:

20% brightness:

100% brightness

10% brightness on gravity:

and the dead pixel (google homepage full window):

Backlight bleed on bottom left and right corners is extremely noticeable in black scenes.

Not an issue if it is any colour other than black in the corners will, going to see if I can live with it as the screen looks great aside from the bleed.

That is pretty bad!

On this 29" I have noticed in games if the response time is set to high the vertical sections like wall edges and pillars that are darker coloured have a pale "trailing" effect. It's very faint but I notice it. The 34UM95 on high response time has no such affect.

Setting it to medium remedies it though and I can't tell if there is any difference in mouse trailing on the desktop either so I guess medium is best for this display.
