LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Can anyone tell me their post calibration settings? Im using it in a pretty much black room with very little light and I don't think I need the 70 Brightness it is an now.

Lol at LG chat session, essentially their solution was for me to only use the monitor during "bright" day conditions with a low brightness as they say these are normal viewing conditions and that the backlight bleed was standard for the tech.

So yeah, they think the back light bleed is within acceptable standards and aren't willing to repair it.....

Going to seek another RMA with ocuk, I am tempted just to get a refund and put the extra towards the dell version though, largely because of their swap on the door policy.

It's just the factory default settings after a reset. They don't come pre-calibrated so you're better off tweaking to your liking.

20 brightness should be a good start I'd say.

Edit*
That's a shame Nexus, that tech is talking poo :/

Yup I told him that my fellow forum members agreed that the back light bleed wasn't acceptable etc. but he then said the above and wanted me to post a photo during the day with low brightness.

TBH, thinking more about their response/service now, I am strongly considering getting a refund and getting the dell 29", £100 more but get an extra year of warranty and far better service.

I'll see what they do with my repair, if it comes back no different or worse then I'll ship it back to Germany with pictures and links to this thread for a refund. It would be a damn shame as I really don't think dell will better the specs of the LG, especially the hardware calibration stuff and OSD controls via that joystick which is just brilliant. Also don't think Dell can match the styling of the UM95 as all Dell screens look the same and use the same plastic casing material that creaks over time.

By specs do you mean, the actual panel itself or just the connections etc.? AFAIK, dell always use lg panels so contrast ratio, brightness etc. should be the same.

I can see why you like the hardware calibration stuff though!

I love the wee joystick for controls too, so nice just having the one button that controls everything  But at the same time, I'm not too bothered about going back to dell's way.

The Dell U2913WM is very similar looking to my 29UM65 (with the borderless top and side edges), in fact, I would probably say better since it doesn't have any glossy plastic! :p So I imagine it should be the same for the 34" dell monitor too......

Unfortunately, it is more or less guaranteed that the dell version of the 34" lg panel will probably cost at least £100 more.

Spec as in all the additional features, it's pretty much a given the panel will be the same LG as we have on the UM95 and it appears the AOC is the same too.

Just trying to help here....

I find that taking photos of the light bleed / glow tends to enhance the problem, mine always looks worse in the photo than it does whilst using the monitor.
What I have found with my second LG (both very similar light bleed / glow issues) is that if I watch the film Gravity up close then I see in my peripheral view (at the corners) evidence of light glow / bleed. If I sit back at around six or seven feet or so from the monitor then it just about disappears.
Unfortunately I do not play games from six or seven feet away but if I notice any such issues (primarily at the corners) and then sit the distance noted above away then it makes a real difference to the quality of the picture.

For me, unless it gets any worse than what it is, I'm content with the £250 that I have paid for a 29" 21:9 monitor compared to what else is on the market, and at what cost. I understand that we all have different expectations, and monitors, but in OC's advert someone has noted about the Dells light bleed/ glow in the corners.

6-7 feet!? I sit at about 2-4 feet away from my monitor, due to my room/desk setup, I can't go any further back.

The photos do make the bleed more noticeable without a doubt, unfortunately the bleed is still noticeable to my eyes in dark scenes during films/games though (and this is with 10% brightness). If it was only noticeable at 50+% brightness then I wouldn't mind.

Plus the dead pixel whilst not noticeable in anything but uniform colours, it is rather irritating knowing that it is there, again, if it was at corner of the monitor, I wouldn't mind but this is located in the central area :(

And yup, I have no doubts that the dell will have the same issues, however, at least with their swap on the doorstep service, it won't be such a hassle getting a "good" monitor as atm, I am having to repackage the monitor, get it collected, then wait for another 4/5 days or so until replacement arrives, rinse and repeat.

Yeah I feel your pain.

I am just not sure of what is reasonable to expect with these screens, but I'm basing that on "only" paying £250. If I paid the price of the Dell my expectations would be much higher. With that in mind I could only imagine a replacement monitor / swap etc being done almost daily until I get one good enough for its cost, if such a screen is there to be had.
Providing, of course, that Dell are going to be any more flexible with their returns for what could be deemed acceptable light bleed / IPS glow.

BTW If you can only sit 2 to 4 feet away from these screens then I suggest covering over the last three inches or so of each side with some black fabric tape or something or else you will always see some bleed/ glow.! ;)

I sit about 2ft away if the 34" UM65 I have coming has unacceptable bleed & or dead pixels its going straight back!

LG need to make these to a high std if they want to keep the money & not get trapped in an RMA loop with me ;)

IMO £250 is still quite expensive, granted nowhere in the same league as the 34" LG monitor but still, that amount of back light bleed @10% brightness and a dead pixel in the central area regardless of cost isn't acceptable imo

I would be more than happy with this monitor for example

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=26448438&postcount=1368

The two dell u2311h and dell 2209wa in my household have literally no back light bleed at all and with a far higher brightness setting too.

Hmmm good point that about dell, just been having a google around and there are mixed opinions on them....

hehe, it is closer than what I would like :p But 6-7 feet is too far back! (imo) When it comes to just sitting back and watching a film/tv show or playing a sp using a 360 controller, I would be at 4 feet, when playing games using M+KB and general browsing/work stuff then I will be sitting around 2-3 feet.

Mine has turned up! Looks good, do need to test the backlight bleed though, no stuck or dead pixels as of yet!

Question: I have the CD's for the calibration software, however I don't have a disk drive in my computer/a way of connecting one as I've used all the slots & I'm struggling to find the software online?

I sent a webnote to OcUK to cancel as well, somehow the buggers in Germany managed to take money despite me having set a maximum of €100 overdraft, and having spent the money I put into it at OcUK for the preorder.

So they've gone and mangled my card somehow, and cancelling from OcUK will at least alleviate any massive fines the bank might impose.

Can't believe this hassle.

EDIT: Got off the phone with the rainforrest, says they’re siding with me, and they’re contacting the reseller now on my behalf. They have until wednesday to respond to the inquiry or the rainforrest will be doing a refund charge to my card, and investigating for potential fraud.

Edit: now that the forrest got involved the reseller suddenly sent me this.

What the hell is this bs?! Called the forrest again, and they're now filing a claim to see what's going on although it can take up to 2 months to sort through this. :/

Lesson learnt, never order from a reseller. What a bloody mess.

Do you extensively check the user reviews before dealing with the marketplace? I guess it also depends who you shop via the marketplace because all I can say is I've had solid experiences for the past 10 years at least. Even from some in France.

Sounding good so far m8! :)

Software stuff here:

Personally I don't bother with monitor drivers/software :p

I have only used their RMA once and that was for the first monitor and had no problems, hope I get the same level of service with this 2nd RMA again!

Well, consistency in customer service has a lot to answer for. My experience was bad, and the attitude I experienced was terrible. Upshot is I will never buy hardware from ocuk again, and I have spent thousands over the last 10 years. Oh well. I still like the forums, just not the shop.
