Lids off when buying petrol

my old man has one of those lids with complete lift up front, police style, the day I wear one of those though is the day I stop biking

For all those saying it's a reasonable request, where shall people put their helmets and gloves? The pumps provide no clean area to keep the helmets where they would not get damaged due to a fall.

Then why didnt the OP state this case rather than ranting and losing his temper!

I'm not ranting (well abit heh), but at same time I didn't expect to have to explain in the first post how to take my helmet off

It's a post about something that makes me angry, it's gonna of course come across that way :p

Instead a load of people who had not experienced this for themselves jumped to conclusions without knowing anything about it

I love the internet sometime :)

edit: 3 page thread about HELMETS, not bad going!, though not sure why I'm here on a friday night....

I dont get off to fill up as bike is on sidestand and the wrong angle.. I can't fill it right up!

I have to get off as I cant reach the floor to put lid on tarmac (not that I'd want to do that on a forecourt)

I cant put lid anywhere except the seat, how can I do that sat on it (the tank has filler that needs to open you know, so cant be used to rest my lid)

1) dont fill it right up then. Will you explode if you dont put a full tank in ?

2) you need 2 hands to hold a petrol pump ? gloves in helment, helmet in one hand, petrol pump in the other.

there we go, 2 perfectly reasonable solutions, Unlike you however

I still cant believe we don't operate a pay first then pump, when I went to the US of A you had to pay before you could pump.

You obviously don't ride a bike.

Bikes have such small tanks it would be pointless to not fill it all the way up. My current bike gets 120 miles to a full tank, my last got 70! Of course I want to fill it up.

You do need 2 hands to fill up a bike tank usually because of the angle you need to get the pump in!

1. I like to fill bike right up I only have 100mile range as it is..

2. It takes two hands to fill a sportsbike up... you try it, without two hands you'd spill it. Fool ;)

Can i suggest that you try using the card payment option?

The Tesco garage i work in allows you to pay at the pump with a card and you'll get it to dispense fuel without actually going into the kiosk as its also used when the garage is closed.

I'm sorry if i came across as being too harsh in my other post

And some who have and still disagree with you. I never found it a huge problem, simple as that.

Helmet off, gloves in helmet, sit on bike with lid under one arm and fill it with the other, replace pump, put bike on stand, walk in and pay, replace lid and gloves, go. Not exactly a major inconvenience.

Someone above said they would remove their earplugs. Why

you got ladys hands then or something ? :p

lol :)

tbh, with a flat fuel tank with a race style filler, you can fill it with one hand, but if you drop the thing it would scratch your tank up.

also, you have to hold the nozzle right at entrance to tank or it just clicks off... it take abit more effort than one hand can easily do, and I don't fancy trying it holding a lid in other. It's a accident waiting to happen

if your m8 can do it then he's a better man than me...

your right to get annoyed by this, you are the customer afterall!. They already have your plates on CCTV to check to cover fuel theft.

Change your business to a garage that is less hassle, there are quite a few 24 hour pre pay ones round here, thankfully they are becoming more common, even walking to the kiosk is annoying now let alone trying to interact with the attendant!

That was me. It's because they always catch on the helmet and it pulls them half out.

I have odd ears :p

End of the day it's not the end of the world, just inconvenient. I wouldn't kick up a fuss over it though, I'd just go somewhere else

and are completely useless if the bike is stolen

Ahh say the police, its alright we caught him on CCTV. Oh wait no we didnt because he kept his helmet on ...

I'll quote my other post i think it got lost, to address the second part of this quote:

I always took my helmet off when paying for petrol when I had my bike. Strange thread really, you were obviously filling up in a station where they have had previous problems - either take off your helmet as they ask or go somewhere else surely.
