Lila Connect - VX Fibre 1gig - Stoke on Trent

Yes but there's no reason why it should be struggling to work at 1Gb, PCs have been able to do that for probably 15 years.

Things to try would be to connect the PC directly to the Lila ONT and see if you still have problems, and try a clean Windows install on a spare drive, or boot a live Linux distro for testing.

Mine is up and running. 945Mbps download 860Mbps upload. That is through my gaming PC through an ethernet cable. A speed test on my 4k newish TV I getting 130 mbps through wireless. My phone gets 800 to 100 depending where I am in the house. Laptop is 500 is (wireless)

Your speeds are spot on what they should be for the devices that you are using. No issue I see with your connection. You'll enjoy the speed.

All sorted.
it was my onboard controller,
just installed
PCIe Gigabit Network Card PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with Intel 82576 Ports PCI Express NIC.
speeds are constant.
download 950 mbps
upload 949

In Stoke here, and being stuck on ADSL2+ (1MB/s) with no access to fibre I was happy to get their literature pushed through the door saying they'd be digging up our street to lay the cables. I've registered interest and will see what happens.

Only problem I have is all my PC gear and TV are at the back of the house and I can't have cables running through the house. Think I might have to have it installed in the downstairs front room and then use powerline plugs.

Would you absolutely have to use powerlines? It'd be a waste of shiny new bandwidth to have a 1Gbps connection throttled down and knackered by using cruddy powerlines.

Could you not run a network cable or two from the Lila kit to where your PC and TV are?

Wow . I didn’t think ASDL still existed ! Dam you really need fibre.

They will install in the back if you ask.

Some in trentham have kitchens in front of property,
Lots in trentham have had the fibre around the the side of the house into the back. No need for p lines.

My Living room is at the back of the house (Kitchen at front). I called back in December 2020 to see if they would install in the garage, as the wall is shared by living room. Guy came around couple days later to have a look and they did install in the ONT box in the garage. As long as it's reasonable and easily accessible, they should have no problem running the fibre cable around to the back of the house. Give them a call to see what they can do.

Mid-terraced house, only way to get to the back is up and over.

Is ADSL2+ the only option? Using powerlines (while not the best option) will give you a better connection than 1Mbps but you wont be able to make use of it all. Perhaps look at their 250 or 500 Mbps options. I'd only go with 1Gb if you could run a cable. You could possible work out how to run one along skirting board under floor or through walls.

I am also currently awaiting install with lila for gigabit, some questions I have regarding my potential set up at point of install. I currently use netgear rbk53 mesh set up will this still work or will my orbi be redundant. I game on ps5 casually bit of cod and such will this be a problem with lila ?. Will acces to my synology nas when away from home be a problem it is currently set up with quick connect and ddns with open vpn.

Existing setup should be fine as long as it has a WAN port to connect an ether cable into. In terms of gaming and accessing NAS away from home, you'd need to make sure you get a static IP from them.

Yep, ADSL2+ is the only option as the cabinet isn't activated for fibre and on the BT website it says they don't have plans to do so (because they're a bunch of ******* useless *****). I was looking at the 250Mb option anyway, but I can't run cables so the powerlines will have to suffice. If it was my house I'd have the cables laid already, but I sold my place a while back and moved back in with my parents to help my Mother care for my old man.

Wireless and decent powerline plugs (so long as the electrical cable in the house is good) will be better than the 1Mb you get now.

I have read that via WiFi on my orbi I may max out at 400 meg due to overheads and such but that is a big loss from 1 gig.
I wonder whether I should just go for half gigabit as most devices in house are wireless.

You wont get anywhere near to 1Gb with wireless. I'd only have Lila installed if it will be faster than what you get now (even the half Gigabit) and if you can make use of the full connection speed.

Does anyone have any ideas why both managed netgear switch’s slow down netflix??
at moment using netgear 308 unmanaged switch . which fixed all my earlier problems.

netflix is 8 mbps with both managed switches gs308e and gs105e both are new.
netflix is to slow to use with these switches , and yet all other devices on switch are running fine.

dhcp is off, both using default settings.
if i plug in my gs308 unmanaged i get full speed on netflix.

no matter which ethernet cable i use results still the same.

Ignore this post. Gotem working
