Lila Connect - VX Fibre 1gig - Stoke on Trent

Hi, just came off the phone having talked to an agent. I booked last year and am with Virgin.
I was receiving the standard "connection soon" no reply email so emailed to check potential date. The cable was put in my street last June and I was told a target date was February to April 2023 when I ordered. The email came back saying December to February 2024!

Today I got another "getting closer" email so I phoned up, thinking I wasn't yet a customer I chose option 1 sales, only to be told I was on the wrong option as I was a customer. As the sales don't have access to existing customers I rang again and chose customer service . Spoke to a nice guy who has been waiting 2 years himself! Asked about the target date and he confirmed at least 9 months away December to February 2024. Challenged why I was getting the update email and was told "automatic computer" and I was getting nearer. After I stopped laughing asked him to stop them as they were meaningless.
I also asked about whether if I paid the £600ish up front I would be able to allow isp other than Lila to use the network and was told no. This is the opposite of what the company do in Sweden.

It therefore makes no sense whatsoever to pay up front as you will be locked in to them as a supplier just as Virgin. If like me you are with Virgin you will become a new customer after 12 months with Lila and can play one of against another.

Thought I would share this as it isn't something they advertise. Sorry for the ramble but hope it helps.

When they first started, Lila was not even an option for an ISP, they had Breeze, Air and a few others so there were other providers using their network. However, about a year ago, Lila became an option as an ISP and undercut all the other providers by between £5 and £10 so it wasn't worth the others providing a service as they could not match it. There may be others in the future but that would be up to them.
Thanks but you have missed the vital part of the point I am making. I was told that no other broadband isp would be able to use their network. To emphasise they would be a monopoly provider on their network as Virgin. It would not be like the electricity industry where National Grid provide the wires for others to use. So no point in paying the full amount up front

I thought it was pay £650 now and you don't ever have to pay £10 a month again for the line!

You're taking a bet that at no point in the next 5.5 years will Lila change their policy towards the connection charge. I would go down the £10/month route.

So will I, it made sense to pay the £650 up front if it was for permanent use of the cable regardless of isp but not if it means being locked into only one. I doubt that virgin will remove their connection (still have a previous router they didn't collect) or lila either . So after 12 months I become a new customer for virgin if needs be.
It's annoying as lila is part of a Swedish company who operate completely differently there. As you say paying £650 up front would be a gamble

Why do some people suggest their own Modems because so far this Zykel has been excellent?

Why are some people paying for a Static IP?

People pay for static IP in case they host something at home or need constant connection to home devices without needing for something like DDNS. Having a static IP simplifies things.

DIdn't know this thread was about! We've just had it active in Bristol a few weeks. Mine was installed a few weeks ago to the house, but they encountered issues blowing the fiber to the box so pavement/road needs to be dug up.

What's the general consensus on speed/reliability?

I only had it on Tuesday but up to yet it's awesome.
I can't link pictures at the moment but I've got 998 download and 986 upload with 7.3 ping on the test I just did.

Just did another -

0.19ms of jitter over the internet through a browser-based speed test is not worth spending any time on

Edit: You might want to delete that image as the UPRN is a unique reference that locates your house, and it's in a public database.

Had this for over 2 years now. Speed has been constant. Tested on their internal handover speed test and the link for fusion that you posted. 0.09 jitter has no impact at all. Their handover test link is here: http://speed-uk1.vx.se/index.html

My mate is FUMING!!! So see what you may think about this BS.
He's had amazing Lila for 3 months but got home Saturday at 5PM to no service so he rebooted everything 3 times over.
He tried to ring Lila but not open until 10am Monday morning (today) so he had me looking for contacts but I found nothing.
I received an email and a phone call this morning off him.

Hi Geoff,

We're sorry your connection went down. We do offer an out of hours line but unfortunately sometimes our engineers are very busy.
We do match Virgin Media's hours of availability for staff in the contact centre, but we're sorry you were unable to reach us on this occasion. Have you tried rebooting the wall-mounted SDD and router, as we've no widespread problems noted on the network?
We will get back to your email as soon as possible and look to rectify any issue you've been having.
Kind Regards,
The LilaConnect Customer Service Team

He then had a phone call and this is his response:

They rang me at 08:30 apparently I have 16 devices on my network ?? I KNOW THAT !! some are not compliant ??? went quiet when I said they all work with Virgin....So TP Link, Panasonic, Samsung, Ring, Packard Bell are messing up the system ? Oh Please !!

So what you say OCUK, does it sound like BS, they've all been working for 3 months?
Also does anybody know this out of hours phone number?

UPDATE

My mate:
Lila sorted my broadband. Apparently I had a duplicate IP address connected to my ssd. So it would keep switching from one to the other.
