Living in University Halls

It may be the 2nd largest, but the gap between Bham and London is HUGE:p London is on scale with the best cities in the world, Bham just doesn't have that yet.

Yeah that's pretty true. I was actually shocked when I went to London for the first time. It strikes me as being busy 24/7 in comparison to Birmingham. Definately would have loved to go uni there though :)

What was it you hated?

I dont know to be honest, was a combination of the city and soem of the people. Lots of stuck up people that glare down their nose at you, went into harrods for a look and it was like 'zomg a geordie, your not allowed in here' and its busy 24/7, its as if no-one gets any breaks. Then again when i was down there i spent most of my time towards the centre, which might be why.

The centre of London is the best bit. I love the fact the place is 24/7, it suits my lifestyle very well and I think there are aspects of snobbery but then you will get negative personal attributes everywhere you go in the country. As long as you have a bit of money, London is a great place to live.

2 - Keep a spare loo roll in your room

Best advice ever! I never used to but my house mate gets through a ridiculous amount of toilet roll and lets face it if you gotta go you gotta go and theres no way I'm running to the shop like I got a stick up my ass!

Im thinking of, well....i say, but getting a good bunch of us from our first day and just go out on the lash, makes introductions easier.....dutch courage.

will be doing that with my flat mates too.

got my accommodation letters back, i know exactly what room im in, all very exciting, its all sorted...now i have to sit and tap my fingers for 4flaming weeks

where u at vaynes in the stephenson buildin god knows where i am

Well I got my accom all sorted now. I move in on 16th September. Got my second choice accom but I am still happy with it, it's just that little bit further from my Campus that's all! I shall be staying at the great dover street apartments near Borough High Street, london. Anyone else stayed there whilst studying at Kings?

Just got mine. Am staying in James Lighthill house.
Anyone had any experience with that place?

Also, anyone know if its a problem if I wanna go and take a look at the place first?

I put an advert on unipol yesterday at about 4pm for 2 rooms in headingley. I had 4 text messages, 3 phone calls at night. 2 lads came around, looked at the house and are signing for it tomorrow.

Mad rush at the moment I think. They both seem safe and will enjoy a full house again

Ahh you are studying at UCL? What subject? James Lighthill is well out of the way, not the best locations (just past kings cross). Travelling distance is about 30-40 mins walk to UCL buildings but you can get buses from euston road easily. Not ideal for when you want to nip back between lectures but you don't really have any choice as UCL accomodation is randomly picked (based on the criteria you set on your form).

My advice would be to try and ring up and get a place at one of the closer halls, preferably Shafer House or Ramsay Hall (I was here and its the best:D). Chances are there won't be any available, but try after the first term has finished, people often move back home because they don't like living out. Just see how you find it, you might like it:)

Studying History at SSEES :) As you said, buses are easily avaialble, and kings cross is close by so I could get the tube too, so not too much of an issue.
Apart from the distance, is there any other reason why it's not a good location? Is the area and all ok? I don't want Ramsay hall because I want en-suite and the halls don't have that.
Well, even if I don't like it too much, I can move back home only for that year, mom's going back to India after that and i'l be all alone :( (well, apart from ocuk of course :p)

What's a DM?

Anyone else Newcastle then?

Im starting 2nd year at Newcastle Uni when I go back (Doing comp sci).
My flat for this year coming is in Jesmond, which is pretty much all student housing hehe.
I was not in halls the 1st year so I don't really know a lot about them. However I visited freinds in a few and can tell you what I thought if your interested.

Ahh History, one of my good friends has just finished her first year:) Buses are all you need, you'd be crazy to take the tube from kings x to euston square, just no need on such a short distance. Area is ok, just a bit out the way really, you don't really want to be walking past kings cross at night by yourself. Also i'd not get too hung up about ensuite, you hardly even notice it at Ramsay and the halls are the best, most sociable too and everyone is a first year there. I still say you give Ramsay a second thought once you have got started because by the end of term 1 everyone in all the other halls wanted to be there.
