Living in University Halls

My flatmate and I have some soft footballs which we kick in the corridor sometimes. Lost a few tiles that way though :p

NHL i find is also really good too, high scoring game, quick blast and easy to pick up.

Ah yes! Big heads or whatever option is a good part of that game.

What annoyed me is that NO ONE in my flat was into cars, so racing games were out of the window. Though to be honest we hardly used the console... our halls were always roasting as the heating was on so we just had to go out... shame ;)

Well, I am going into my second year, and if you are into casual sex, then uni is the best place on earth, that all I have to say.

There are so many gorgeous women it's incredible

My flatmates were obsessed with Buzz for the best part of the year, oh dear how annoying that game got :p

I've got a wireless router set up with my flatmate too, so sessions of UT versus bots never goes a miss :)

I agree with Ray whole heartedly on this too - choose friends over your room. They'll be days you just want to be left alone, but for the best part make an effort :)

Leaving my rig at home would be silly on a Computer Games design course :p

And each room in the hall is connected to the internet via a 10MB connection aparently, so thats out of the question too.

It's up to you, I've seen a lot of students miss out on the social life by not breaking ties of their homelife and spending more time on their PC than socialising and meeting new friends when going to uni.

To be honest though, that's their choice. If you're actively making an effort to go out and socialise a bit (even just within your flat), it's not a problem.

I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck in Halls without a PC or net access.

It all depends on the person, there were 8 of us in our flat in halls for first year, 7 had a PC (no internet connection there because Abertay Uni halls are kind of rubbish though) and 4 of us went out regularly, the other 4 didn't for various reasons(1 was a pillock, 1 gave up going out due to religion, 1 didn't like it much and 1 had a girlfriend who kept him firmly under the thumb, if she didn't he would stray). I subsequently moved into private accomodation with the other guys who went out regularly and that was the way it stayed until they graduated.

Halls can be an awesome time and a lot of the fun just happens but you do have to be prepared to take opportunities when they present themselves and occasionally make things happen - it depends on what is around you but bowling and ice skating were always fun during first year aside from the obvious just going out on the lash.

Half the time the girls from the flat above would be in our living room watching TV before anyone else got up. Probably the most enjoyable thing about halls was that there was always something going on. The best advice I can give is just try out as much as you can, if you like it great, keep doing it, if not at least you have a story to laugh about.

Nothing much to add except... Uni is awesome. Seriously. If you are sad pathetic geek with a counterstrike addiction, Uni has the potential to make you normal again.

Remember to take condoms, one of the most essential items next to toothpaste.

Halls was a good laugh, I bought a loud system just for halls and it was much fun, almost got kicked out and reported to the university but I liked living on the edge! Luckily I had the most socialable and closest halls to the uni which was a bonus, meeting people is easy as everyone is in the same position. For me everyone just congregated in the streets and courtyards.

Next year i'm living in private halls, 6 bed ensuite flat arrangement with 3 of my mates and two random girls! Should be fun:)

No offence but people like you made my friends year at uni hell this year. She could never study or get any sleep becuase people like yourself seem to think loud stereos are acceptable, and being reported to the Uni is funny.

I agree. There is a difference between living on the edge and being an inconsiderate plank.
