I'm sorry if I am being snappy but given my current situation I am sensitive about my weight and guys have a little dig or a poke about " fat birds " really doesn't help

Thats not my experience but then I've only been in a relationship for 13 years, maybe my wife and I are the exception which proves your hastilly manufactured theory?

Not my theory mate, read the article...

and while youre up there on your high horse, take a closer look at my post...Then try and work out whether I was being entirely serious..The whole 21 year old on the side thing might give you a hint.

Well it was gonna happen in a thread like this.

You aint fat by any stretch of the imagination so when talkin about fat birds, your feelings dont really come to mind.

Its not really that obvious and it seems to fit in perfectly with the kind of serious attitudes I am seeing here and in the other post currently on the first page of GD.

I'm am trying bloody hard to get back to where I was, I've cut out eating some of the things that I love, watching what I'm eating and pushing myself at the gym so don't ******* tell me I don't give a crap what I look like and I've left myself go

Don't worry Piggy - we both know most of them don't have a clue about women anyway! :p

I think thats a problem with you rather than me...It was a joke, the comment is obviously not serious and it is covered in smileys.

Rubbish. Women let themselves go. Then during breakups the weight starts to fall off, cos you're starting to hunt for your next victim. :p
The man speaketh the truth!

 just a slight overreaction there!

I've put on weight since meeting my other half because we simply do things like go out for meals together quite a bit and sit in front of the TV with a bowl of ice cream or whatever in an evening. All my girlfriends have done the same thing.

My boyfriend doesn't eat any healthier though since getting together with me!

Ive certainly put on weight since I moved in with Mr Betty, I actually got quite upset about it last night. Ive plonked the weight on, yet he seems to be going to the gym 5 times a week.

Theory works in our household :p

Well I certainly wasn't expecting this thread to run sour this quickly.

For what it's worth I'm sorry if I've caused any offence to any women reading this thread, but my comments were jokes and I made that clear with smilies.

The plot thickens. :p

Happyness can make you put on weight.

So clearly a relationship makes women happy and men miserable.

Sounds like pretty solid science to me :)

Me neither :(

And good! :p

 And to think I used to like you! :p

My wife gained about 3 stone in the first 3 years of our relationship and I stuck on about the same

Contentment is definitely responsible there's no question there - we both decided to do something about it after we moved to scotland - I have gone from 23 stone 5 to just over 21 stone (since jan) and the wife has lost over 2 stone!!! It's been incredibly difficult though!

I does seem to happen and it wasn't this that I wasn't the concept I was objecting to, it was

They've hooked their man, they dont have to bother with trying to look good, so they let themselves go...

that bothered me tbh just made me feel a bit cross :(

Well since this thread has turned more serious than fun...

When I'm single I dress for me - I actually make less effort and dress comfortably.

I tend to make more effort, get dressed up more etc when I'm dating someone. :)

I've been with my OH about 2.5 years now.

I'm lighter than I was when we met, because I've worked to keep it that way.

He's put on about 2 stone and while he still looks fantastic, he's struggling to shift it.

Mind you, I wasn't a skinny minny to start off with so maybe that's why - it's more maintenance and damage limitation for me :D

Every time I've been at my thinnest, I've been single. And every time at my heaviest, in a relationship (except this time). I'm happy and relaxed and don't need to worry. However, I always make an effort to look good and that includes how I feel, if I need to lose some I do it, relationship or no relationship.

That's my theory anyway :) And well done philstanbridge and mrs philstanbridge!

It's always someone else's fault isn't it?

If people want to get in/stay enough in shape they will, if they are busy that will mean getting up earlier or going to bed later, it's all about how much you want it. Everyone else will just **** and moan about how fat they are getting.

Honestly with the amount of carp that women blame men for why do to be in relationships for anyway? Why don't they just become lesbians and leave us all in peace :p
