London Bridge Incident

When the news played video of ISIS burning that pilot alive in a cage, and it was all over the front pages, explain to me how that's 'bending over backwards' to excuse Islam?

I wouldn't have said that reporting the heinous crimes of ISIS is the same as taking a swipe at Islam. In fact the media goes to lengths to (wrongly in my mind) point at ISIS are not representative of Islam. So.. what was your point?

So who do we fight? Who do we attack? Where? When? How? This is the most guerilla of guerilla warfare. The combatants are unidentifiable.
I've commented on what I think should be done earlier in the topic, but am happy to accept I don't know the right answer. But putting more police on the streets isnt going to fix anything so something more drastic needs to be done.

It's about perception.

If you're a normal moderate Muslim living in the community, going about your daily life - and you see this sort of thing being played on the TV, printed in the paper, on social media, you see the press endlessly associating Islam with terrorism, (which may actually be accurate) then essentially, rightly or wrong - it is taking a swipe.

From the perception of the moderate Muslim, their beloved faith is being tarred with the same brush, surely you can see how this would cause more division and hatred?

This needs to change imo. Imagine what a kick in the teeth to the Islamic State it would be if every church up and down the land was full next Sunday.

So you think that lots of people, religious and non, standing in church next weekend will deliver a blow to Islamic State?

Can you articulate why, and why you think it needs to change?

Are we supposed to pander to every person that believes in the invisible man for fear of offending them? The free press does not operate that way.

Not really. Any normal person would ignore it and get on with their day.

Going from "moderate" to "division and hatred" so easily is part of the problem.

That 'Jihadi Next Door' show by Channel 4 last year supposedly has one of the attackers on it. I remember at the time wondering why these pathetic losers were even allowed to preach their hate.

My thoughts on recent events.... TBH I'm sick and tired of the media and politicians spouting stupid lines like

* "We will remain defiant..." - What do they mean by this?
* "We will continue to go about our lives as normal" - This one really grinds my gears. First of all. Those who had lost close ones or had been caught up in this mess. Will not be the same. To suggest otherwise is just stupid. Also what choice do we ultimately have? We have bills to pay and money to make!

I saw Khan's response interview in the news yesterday and thought what a donut. It's perfectly normal to be afraid in situations like this.
