Lost Ark EU - !!

I don't think i will ever pre-order anything again. Its just a lose lose for the buyer.

It is, paying for games in advance, pre-ordering or paying for headstarts is just foolish, and it allows devs and publishers to push out slop. But, people have no patience, self-control and poor judgement.

I got 30 hours of gameplay before the f2p launch for ~£13. That's for a game that is very polished, as its been out in Korea for 2+ years. Also some other extras, which I treated as a bonus.

Queued for an hour and finally back in. Tried gifting the game to friend in the Netherlands but seems that loophole has now been blocked.

I really dont think that you can be so generalised with that statement. IMO, non-thought out preordering is bad, smart preordering however, can be good.

What exactly do you gain from pre-ordering that is considered "smart"? You usually pay full price so theres not even monetary gain. Companies that i used to trust to put out a good product are no longer the same companies.

Here are some examples, for one, preorder on cdkeys and usually save at least 40% on the price. Pay for early headstart on an MMO and avoid the day one starter zone crashing and population overload

Conversely, you tell me, what do I gain by not preordering? Yes, if the entire planet didnt preorder then there might be an attitude shift in companies, but the rest of the world will continue preordering so thats a totally moot point. If I preorder and the game is rubbish, I refund. No harm done to me. If I buy at release and the game is rubbish, I refund, exactly the same, no harm done to me. So frankly, given the choice of preordering on cdkeys and getting a title on day one, 40+% (sometimes less than half price even), for a title I really want, I'll take the big discount. :)

Smart preordering is doing your research on a title, most of the people with bad preorder experiences are people who keep blindly preordering based on a promotional video. Like everything you buy in life, be smart about it. By the way, I've also just preordered my Christmas holiday this year :D

Wait if you pre-order games for steam via cdkeys you can still get a refund?

No, the refund part (in my case) was in reference to MMOs, which usually arent on cdkeys. Though I guess if you were someone who only buys on Steam (like some sort of weirdo) then the refund point would still stand, preorder and its rubbish, refund, dont preorder and its rubbish, refund. No difference in that regard.

I buy pretty much 90% of my games on cdkeys and many via preorder on cdkeys, so I've saved a bucketload of money by doing so.

However, I answered your question, but you havent answered mine yet. What do I gain in reality, by not preordering?

I just think the hype culture nowadays does not mix well with pre-orders, many early reviewers/streamers are paid to play it and are punished for negative reviews/feedback. So its mainly a lack of trust of the companies to deliver what they promised and then add the paid off reviewers and then add the fanboys on top. It just makes pre-orders much more of a gamble than it used to be a few years ago.

You have to be careful with refunds and MMO's since if you claim any if the promotional items you don't get a refund also MMO's can be tricky since you won't know what the latter game is like until its to late.

I've never refunded an MMO, mainly for the reason that you mention - that its hard to judge an MMO until you've put a significant amount of time into it.

But the gist of what you are saying is that there is no gain in reality for me to not preorder. So for a game that I really want it boils down to huge discount if I preorder on cdkeys vs small or no discount if I wait til day one to buy on cdkeys or Steam. Seems like a no brainer to me :)

I do A LOT of research into games that I preorder and I only preorder after that research is done or if I have a very good reason to preorder based on past experience (for example, I have preordered Total Warhammer 3 on cdkeys, after putting in 1000s of hours on Total Warhammer 1 and 2). To be honest I am very rarely let down by a purchase, the only recent title that I bought and was hugely let down on was Cyberpunk but to be fair the pre release media, previews etc were so inaccurate that even if you bought Cyberpunk on day one rather than preorder you'd still have been letdown so preordering or not wouldnt have made any difference with that particular title.

I'm at the start, about 30 minutes played, am I meant to be level 10 off the bat?

Also my equipped weapon is Level 50... this makes no sense to me at level 10. I'm probably too used to other MMO's.
