LOTRO free to play going ahead.

I'm not quite sure why people are asking them to join an RP server when they have no intentions to RP. I suggest you roll on a non-RP server. OCUK as a kinship name maybe altered too as it may not fit the Lore (if someone reports it, it is likely to be altered) there are plenty of non-RP server's for players to join!.

The reason you get reactions like that is they want to protect their server from people who have no intention in taking part.

The RP on Laurelin is not forced upon you but rather it is there if you wish to take part in RP. The OCUK kinship on Laurelin is called Old Council to the Undying Kings so a RP spin on the OcUK letters.

I'm not sure where the elitist reactions come from, I typically turn off GlobalLFF regardless of which server I am on due to the various childish / bandwagon comments e.g. "Here come the WoW'rs" that usually flood the channel.

*Edit* Tombstone pretty much beat me to the explanation & a better one at that :P

I think someone may have attempted to invite me, but as I didn't know the Kinship name I refused. :D

Can anyone re-invite "Taldnur" on Laurelin? I assume you can send invites while I'm offline?

I've never actually been in a kinship in lotro before, is there an actual aim for the guild such as guild levels, guild quests etc. Or is it simply a social thing ?

The guilds do rank up but they rank up based on how long they've existed rather than quests done. Other than that its a social thing, although the extra "teleport" from having a Kinship House comes in useful.

Mostly a social thing, you do have ranks within the kin along with a kinship house and some additional storage but thats about it. The community has been asking for additional kinship functionality for years now but nothing has been added. One would hope they try to impliment some of the things you suggest to give kins the chance to work towards specific goals etc. Hopefully with the extra revenue brought in my F2P they may eventually get round to doing something about it.

What is the best ranged char in LOTRO apart from Ranger, I am rolling the Loremaster atm but not sure if this is what I want and there seems to be very little choice tbh.

Cool, thanks guys. I always thought that EQ2 had one of the best guild systems, just because you could do guild quests and everyone contributed to increasing the guild level, with increased guild level you could get better housing, better equipment for your guild crafting area etc. It worked very well.

I assume you mean hunter. Hunters are the original ranged damage dealing class of the game and pretty much do exactly what they say on the tin. Generally lots of people play hunter but well geared, skillful hunters are always in demand (guess the same is true of any class though). If you want to be a ranged damage dealer without ever being asked to do anything else then go for a hunter.

Alternatively you have rune-keepers which do tactical dps from range. RKs can put out very high DPS (maybe more so than hunters) and are well known for their large crits. RKs have great utility as if traited correctly they are more than capable of healing fellowships and raids. They work on an attunment so can either be attuned to heal OR DPS, not both at the same time, with it taking time to switch between healing and DPS (and vice versa). RK is a premium class so you will have to pay to unlock it.

Lore Masters are a pet class and are best known for their crowd control, debuffs, spot healing & wound/disease removal, and power sharing. They do have some some ranged tactical attacks and if traited can put out some very high AoE DPS but at the expense of losing the abilities that makes them really unique. They are a complex class to play but can potentially bring a lot to a fellowship/raid.

I'm tempted to give this a go bit am I gonna get into it and get stung with having to shell out a load of money?

I thought I read somewhere its possible to earn the points to get the extra quests in game instead of paying is this true?

Yes though you may need to do some grinding to get enough points

Tried to play a bit, but then I left the starting zone and massive rubberbanding all the time so I just gave up :(

Looked to be this zone only though as starting zone and other char was fine.
