LOTRO free to play going ahead.

I'm not quite sure why people are asking them to join an RP server when they have no intentions to RP. I suggest you roll on a non-RP server. OCUK as a kinship name maybe altered too as it may not fit the Lore (if someone reports it, it is likely to be altered) there are plenty of non-RP server's for players to join!.

The reason you get reactions like that is they want to protect their server from people who have no intention in taking part.

The OCUK kinship name isnt OCUK though.

You dont have to RP to be on the RP server, you've never had to RP on any MMO RP server, you just have to respect that others might RP on the server and not disrupt/insult them for doing so.

I do a little RP from time to time, but the reason why I joined the RP server , and the reason why I joined RP servers in every other MMO, is because generally speaking I find the RP server communities to be a touch more mature, more helpful and I also find all the various RP events run by guilds really help to flesh out an MMO.

That's spot on :)

I've played on Laurelin since launch and it's a lovely server. You don't need to roleplay but you also shouldn't act like a pillock when you come across people that do so. Pop into the Prancing Pony one night and just observe...

I'm not too much of a roleplayer either, but one time I was in a group of 4 hobbits (RL friends) and came across a human in the wilderness somewhere and had a very entertaining half hour talking about life in general and how amusing he found our hobbit party as we were so small. Maybe you had to be there :)

No you know what I mean Tombstone especially with F2P. LOTRO community is a bit sensitive and they are aware what the 'basic wow' player maybe like (WoW's community is hit in miss) they prefer people to take part in RP thats why they have a RP specific server. Turbine doesnt promote RP Codemaster's do for that reason.

I'm aware about events by guilds and a lot of other server's do that too. I know as I run ours on Snowbourn from time to time!

My comment about the OCUK kinship was I was a bit worried you'd lose the name if it was called that.

A bit of time observing in the Prancing Pony is definitely recommended for anyone new to RP. I went in there when I was new and found a few people sitting around a table regaling eachother with tales out loud. It was great. Pulled up a pew and got welcomed.

Since then, if I do ever speak to other players in game, it's always in character (outside of the ooc and advice channels). Never had anyone react negatively, but a few do seem a little...uncomfortable with it. Just let yourself go!

EDIT: Always great playing a dwarf as well. You can threaten to punch just about anyone in their stupid face. People love it.

Certainly its true that many in LOTRO are wary of the F2P influx, understandable though as LOTRO has for a long time now had a strong reputation in the MMO genre for its community and type of player (I find that WoWs community is miss, like cosmic wide miss :) ). Change always brings worries and there are some who are worried that the type of userbase which has specifically set LOTRO apart from the norm might be impacted. Best way to allay those fears though is to prove that there is nothing to worry about rather than reinforce the stereotype.

Lots of servers do events of course, its just that I find that Laurelin (and indeed all RP servers that I've been on in past MMOs) tend to have a higher number of events and that the events are more in fitting with my gamestyle than on non-RP servers.

You're right that a guild called OCUK would probably end with a name change, and it might well be that the reaction in globallff would have been different if someone was asking "is anybody from the Undying Kings online" (I think thats the OCUK kin name, not sure though as I am not in it) than "is anybody from OCUK online"

Rather unfair to label an entire server because of the acts of a minority though. I could just as easily say I tried gilrain but got sick of all the immaturity and idiocy , reminds me of why I avoid the server like the plague , childish *****, happily back on laurelin. See, stereotyping works wonders :)

Hey ! I RP ! :(

;)

It's not just based off that, it's based on a number of encounters with people on that server both in game and on the forums, they act very elitist as though they are holier than thou for playing on an RP server and make out that everyone else playing is some immature kid because they don't like to spend their time pretending they are a magical elf in an online world

You didn't mistake them for NPC's did you? :p

Again, unfair to label a whole server down to the actions of the minority. I could easily say that on non-rp servers people act very elitist by looking down on me because I like to spend time RPing and am not interested in loot or stats

Works both ways, I prefer to not label a server because of the actions of a few, its just about finding the server thats right for you rather than belittling the people on the server thats not.

Is it me, or do male Elf's look gay and girlie? I was testing one out yesterday for Runekeeper because i was deciding with being a Dwarf or an Elf, and it struck me how girlie a male Elf looks.

I have a dwarven guardian now, I named him Gorganmiir.

Currently at the first city it seems, only level 6, had an hours play last night. :p

I wouldn't mind joining the kinship if that's ok? Who would I /tell?

Funnily enough, dwarves are the only ones I can roleplay with without feeling like a tit :)

They're already short and vaguely disturbing, so you don't look out of place acting like you wish they would go away :D
