LOTRO free to play going ahead.

added a few of them thanks :)

With my champion do they specialise in medium armour? And when should worry about learning a craft or anything like that.

Cheers.

Champs can wear heavy armour. You should get a crafting quest soon after completing the introduction.

I've only been playing for a week or two myself so my advice might not be the best :p

Armour: I'm pretty sure you either already have or will shortly get access to medium armour. I would guess that at some point you'll get access to heavy armour too.

Craft: Definitely get some kind of craft skill, yeah. Personally I'd recommend getting the Explorer vocation for now, which will allow you to grab all the wood and ore nodes you come across. If you keep all the items you get from this you can either use them later to make armour/weapons or sell them on for a nice profit. Generally, I would keep any items that look like they can be used for crafting (hover over the item and it'll tell you, usually). You can change your vocation/craftskills later so if you decide to go a different route it isn't the end of the world.

Crafting is very definitely worthwhile, right from the start. If you put any effort into it at all you can be crafting armour that's superior to what you'd get from quests at any given level.

Scholar is the only profession that's slow to get going, but it has a lot of useful stuff later on - potions, dyes, weapon oil for hunters and wardens. Jewellers can also craft runekeeper stones and edellharn (sp?) tokens, which reduce your dread after a death.

been playing all morning, so far my champion can only use medium armor at level 12, i chose explorer at the apprenticeship guy so ill start collecting soon. Actually having a bit of trouble when i have to face more than one same level character but im sure ill get used to it (as i read champions are good at taking on large groups).

Also whats the deal with traits? You dont have access to them unless you buy something from the shop? (visited a bard but couldnt do anything)

You unlock them when you kill the right amount of things and complete the right amount of quests etc, they add to your stats basically, making your character more able.

You get a limited number of slots, you should've been able to equip a couple of traits at least, you sure you've unlocked some?

Ah think i got it, thanks :) So for now should I just focus on completing all the quests around erid luin then when i have to go to the shire/bree maybe become vip if im still interested at that point? Sounds a lot easier to just become a subscriber than deal with the annoying shop.

I think you should be okay hitting close to Level 20 by the time you've done Ered Luin, then you can start quests at Buckland in Bree-Land and level up from there. I'm nearing the end of my Bree-Land levelling, just have to start quests in the Barrow Downs and then i'm off to The Lone-Lands, trying to get to the North Downs asap, as i love that place.

Thanks for the invite last night, whoever on OcUK invited me.

what level could you afford a horse? Running to places in ered luin was ok was but now in bree its so slow, i purchased the horse thing for 95 turbine points, but i think horses are 500 silver, ive got about 10 silver atm which im just spending on skills (i just arrived at bree, level 16, loads of skills still to buy, unless im missing some area in erud luin i should have done).

Sounds about right, Ered Luin is for the Dwarves and the Elves, so you won't hit as high as a Hobbit or Man/Woman would as they have the place to themselves. I got my horse in a pack a while ago that gave me a Bree Starter Steed, but i haven't checked the prices lately.

U get heavy armour at lvl 15, and you can technically ride a horse (after getting the riding skill from the store), at lvl 8. Horses though do cost 500s, but that does get you a 60% discount on future horses. You can also get 'better' (slightly faster, more hp's)horses by maxing various faction reputations

heavy armour is 20 ;) for champs anyway. I was starting to loose interest a bit, all the quests around bree town were too low level for my level 17, but i just went to buckland and they seem a bit better. This is usually the time i got bored in the last times i tried to play, i cant find the right quests for my level and far too much running on foot. I'll try to stick with it this time though.

I'm sure we can sort something out for you regarding a horse. ;)

Head north at level 17, look for a horse on the map and head there, decent sized quest hub or two
