Just got to Mirkwood, so glad to be out of Moria!!
I dont understand something? on the map it shows a stable master and milestone a point by the water and also up near the castle up ahead. When I go there, its all mobs etc, and cant find any good guys, do I have to do something or finish a quest to open up something?

You have to complete the area you are in to unlock the rest of Mirk-eaves or whatever it's called. You have an instanced battle to kill an Elite Master, then bobs your uncle you can get to the rest.
Confused the heck out of me too as I only got there on Thursday last week! Just rattle through the quests in the area you are in and you'll get the foreword quest for the rest of the map.

I think I have to hold the gate with some npc's and then destroy two guns either side of the path or something like that and then a number of other quests I think.
I will finish that all and then see what happens
Yep as Halfmad says there is an instanced "prelude" section before full access, a little like the instanced prelude section for Moria.

Think the quests I had to do were the usual kill X mobs etc.
Then 3 ballista and 3 catapults.
Then jam the gate and then it seemed to move onto the prelude proper, which was a fairly nice little set of quests involving Mazog the orc you captured withe Broin in Moria
At a slight problem now, hit 65 about a week ago and find there's little for me to do other than roll another character as I'm not able to dedicate time to raids or long group sessions due to family commitments. So is it time to hang up my boots and leave?
Any suggestions? Genuinely seems rather little point now, where as in other games such as DAOC I would just jump on and rvr. Ettenmoors perhaps?

You could go to the ettenmoors with your main or make a monster and do ettenmoors with that, or join a guild which would allow you to at least know when an instance run is scheduled so that you can pre plan it.
Other than that, yes its time to hang up your boots for a little while. It's unfortunately become the norm in mmos that max level play usually takes time.

I got the steed of night aswell and cannot believe the uproar by ftp players. The games got to make money somewhere, they have staff to pay and more staff to pay to build the expansions.
Yeah if you cannot spend an hour doing any endgame then ettenmoors if for you. What server are you on, my Kinship on Gilrain is currently recruiting, dont have that many level 65s yet, just about enough for moria instances which we do every now and then, we normaly get about 3 of us and then another 3 randoms when heading in mirkwood endgame. Loads of members...just slow at leveling haha.

is anyone else haveing problem updating the game data? i can download something from internet at 800kb-1.1mb but for some reason dowload speed is stuck at 30kb/s :/
I am currently on the f2p and really enjoying it so i am going to get the shadows of angmar and moria.If i get these do i just need to update my codemasters account with the serials as i will have the lates client installed.Also do the full games contain a lot of the quest packs that are available in the store or are they just extra.I dont want to buy some quests to find they are contained in the actual retail game etc.
Also where is cheap to get them from.I looked a couple of weeks ago and could find them for £8 and £6 but just looked on rainforest and stop and they are now £20 each roughly for a new copy.I wish i had picked them up a few weeks ago now but wasnt sure if i would like it.So anybody know any cheap places.
Would a second hand copy work or not as it will have already being registered

meh i keep going on and off this game even though im vip. i try and do as many quests a possible but can't seem to level fast enough i try and not do skirmish either as i dont want to out level quests ..or is that the point of skirmish?
Skirmishes are there to aid leveling, there are just about enough quests to get you all the way to 65, but some people just like to ix it up a bit, and there is the odd spot, e.g. late 30s, where there is still a lack of quests available.
fair do's ill have to do some skirmish then i find em booring though

Ive never had a problem leveling since they added lothlorien managed to get to 60 with a minstrel in 6 days but i honestly did nothing else by play that week, being ill gave me a good excuse haha.
You don't need to do every quest to reach lvl 65 , there are way more quests than you need to hit max level. I've dropped absolutely loads of quests along the way and still had no problem. In some zones I probably only did 50% of the quests there. If you do every quest its inevitable that you will out level a lot of them.
They contain all of the quest packs.
Don't buy Shadows of Angmar, you won't get access to any quest packs from this, Iirc you will only get 30days vip access (there were lots of angry posts from people who had bought the original game at the time of the f2p release but the official line was that buying the original game only bought you the game time, whereas buying the expansions bought you access to those areas). I'm pretty sure Moria will give you 2 extra character slots, access to Rune Keeper & Warden and all the quests in Moria and Lothlorien.
I've ground to a bit of a halt on my levelling at the moment, I rereolled a minstrel on the new server after f2p (have some l65s on Eldar) but my appetite has waned a little with him at L53, making lots of money selling Jewelry though
