LOTRO free to play going ahead.

Don't buy Shadows of Angmar, you won't get access to any quest packs from this, Iirc you will only get 30days vip access (there were lots of angry posts from people who had bought the original game at the time of the f2p release but the official line was that buying the original game only bought you the game time, whereas buying the expansions bought you access to those areas).

Ah yes, come to think of it I remember that on the forums. The best way to play is still to pay monthly, it removes all the hassle of do I have this/that or dont I.

Frankly I wouldnt be at all surprised to see the lifetime account offer pop back up for a bit in the new year either.

I don't think they will ever offer lifetime again because its a dead end for them as far as money is concerned. They tend to offer it early on to get extra money for developement etc but I can't see the point in it now.

I bought my lifetime when they had the sale on earlier this year, I have about 6000 points accumulating at 500 a month for free and not a lot to spend it on, I can't see myself ever having to buy any points

I can see them offering it again, perhaps for the 4th anniversary or to celebrate something else. I can see them offering it, for a limited time, at £100 or £150

Well if they do, people should probably bite their hands off, its a very good deal, think I paid £75 pounds for mine, only regret not doing it earlier.

Indeed, and even a £100 its a decent deal for them and us, even if only 10,000 people buy it , it works out as a cash injection of £1,000,000

I will just get the mines of moria then and that will make me a premium player :)
How much is the monthly sub anyway?

£8.99 a month I believe (at least I think it used to be that, I have a lifetime account so not sure if its still that). Not bad really considering you get the 500 tps each month for it.

You don't need to do every quest to reach lvl 65 , there are way more quests than you need to hit max level. I've dropped absolutely loads of quests along the way and still had no problem. In some zones I probably only did 50% of the quests there. If you do every quest its inevitable that you will out level a lot of them.

As soon as i hit 30 my leveling pace becomes very slow think im at lonelands still just doing lvl 29 quests i want to go where the story goes basically

You reach a point where the story breaks almost into 3 and you can take them in any order. I always tend to do north downs and lone lands simultaneously, jumping from one to the other then I do the same with Evendim and trollshaws. I don't think I've ever done all the quests in a zone because I simply always out level them, just so many.

Also its best to max your rested xp , with the double xp its very easy to make a level an hour, then take a break for a couple of days, let the rested xp max out again and then repeat. I never play the same character for days and days on end as the difference rested xp makes is enormous so I tend to cycle through my characters every couple of days , which ensures that every character always has masses of rested xp.

I've just packed in eve and am looking for a new challenge.

Am i to late to start playing this,? ie other players be to powerful for me ?

What i liked about eve was, even a noob can get on in the game with some good corp mates.

Does this game have eves longevity?

Eve and lotro are almost polar opposites in mmo terms. Eve has a strong pvp lean and high level of complexity and is very much a dog eat dog mmo. Lotro has a strong pve and story lean and is not as complex as eve and has no open world pvp so other players power isnt an issue. As they are such different mmos , with different aims , I personally wouldn't recommend lotro to someone looking for a replacement to eve (i'd probably recommend darkfall or mortal online instead) , generally speaking. That's not to say a person can't like both lotro and eve , they can of course, but they must be aware that they are very different mmos.

sounds like lotro is for me then.
I went into eve blind, and got more than i expected, but i still loved the game, (and friends i made from it).

Im a pve type of player, just that eve made me evil.

I love rpg games.

Hey tombstone, does this have eves longevity ?

Hard to say, some people hit max level get bored and leave, others hit max level and play on happily. Depends on the person I guess. The game has been out for 3 years, it follows the story of Lotr of course and currently its still got over half of the story to go so quite a bit left to cover yet.

the withywindle server i play on is fairly new so it isnt saturated with end game players. infact there are very few. most ppl are only mid level atm (30s-40) with a very busy number of players at the begining. Might be a good place to start rather than a much older well established server with everyone being at the cap.

Any game can have longevity, I know loads of people who've been playing 4 years, none stop, and have anything up to 10 max level characters, doesn't mean the game will have the same affect on you.

e.g. I thought EVE was dreadful and never made it beyond the 14 day trial, despite liking sand box games.

I played Eve for about 7 months, the longest I've played any MMO. I never played any pvp, I ran away a lot thought.

I'm trying out this LOTRO. I seem to prefer this over ALLODS. This seems more refined and focused. More open. So far so good.

Any newer players playing that I can team up with?
