LOTRO free to play going ahead.

Holy crap, look at the minstrel changes! It is just me or does it all seem massively overcomplicated?

Looks like it was done by the same dev who did the Warden, the mechanics seem a lot closer to warden now.

I could do with some guidance on the game please, recently downloaded and created account, but upon starting it the game graphically looks very backward and nothing like the awesome screen shots i've seen of roaling hills and amazing water etc, does it improve outside the starter area?

Not sure if it still does it, but it used to stream the download in the background, and only load the crappy textures first. So for the first few hours your graphics would look a bit rubbish. After a while you should be getting :

Hunter changes are pretty good too, I like that traits aren't tied to a specific stance anymore.

Minstrel - bloody hell, that's a lot of changes. I think I might actually level one up again just to get used to it from the ground up.

I had to literally clear out my minnie's 4 skill bars and add the skills back in one by one to get a feel for it. This must be what it's like buying a levelled toon :)

Does look pretty good so far, certainly a lot better than it used to be.

I don't like the way the cash shop is going at all. It doesn't actually affect me in game, I never come up against something I need to spend money to beat, but I just dislike the whole lockbox thing and the way they're implementing soldier on landscape.

The worst was the barter wallet thing. It was supposedly implemented to clean up all the various tokens in your inventory, now it turns you have to pay up to get a version that actually does that properly. So basically, implement something broken, and look for money for a fixed version.

As I say, doesn't affect me in game much, yet. But the way they've been going it can't be long. It's a dreadful pity, lotro is one of the best implemented and best looking PvE mmos around, but they're basically pimping the whole game out for fast cash.

Other than logging in every so often to pay the upkeep on the guildhall, I can't bring myself to play much either. Part of the problem is that all the areas after Moria so far are boring as hell. Tried doing a bit of Mirkwood, and I think they really dropped the ball on that, so did enedwaith with a different toon, and that's REALLY boring :p

I have a load of toons sitting around the 55-62 mark as a result.

I have half a dozen toons up at 60-63, and the content at that level is just boring as hell. Apparently Rise of Isengard isn't much of an improvement, so I don't fancy slogging my way through it all to see if Rohan is any good.

Still bought it using points though, there's not much else to spend them on with a lifetime.

It's downloading textures on the fly, I'd say. When you sign up it downloads low quality textures first, to get you in-game and playing, while it keeps updating in the background. The result is that the game looks rubbish for the first few hours.

I don't know why they do it, I reckon it just puts people off. I should look like this (these are quite old too, not even on the highest settings):

Just leave the launcher running, I think there are settings on it somewhere to allow background downloads. Wes, jpeg compression might be making my screenies better than if they were full size, but I dunno about the view distance. I know the human starter areas are pretty poor looking compared to some of the later areas in the game.

From memory, I think screenshots are stored in a lord of the rings online folder in your My Documents.

The hi-res installer option doesn't seem to be there anymore. Jaackla have you upped everything in the advanced graphics tab as well at the graphic one, when you hit Esc in-game and choose options?

This is outside the hunting lodge in the Archet starter zone, a very ordinary looking zone. Your game should look like this:
