LOTRO free to play going ahead.

The account management servers were down yesterday for maintenance, so that might have been the problem.

Hope thats it, but i did try and create an account several weeks ago and gave up.

Just tried it from work and I can't do it here either. That's 2 PCs and an Ipad, three usernames, four passwords and no errors, just a simple refresh of the form on submitting.

Starting to think I need to find a third party to create me an account so I have sent an email to Turbine; not hopeful...

I had the same problem the other day and finally got it working by disabling javascript.

Nice idea, but that doesn't work here. It's like the publisher's don't want my money or something..

Maybe I will just go and play WOW instead..

Never mind, got there in the end by disabling java and using a range of account names until one worked; some error checking on that page would be handy!

TBH, LotRO has turned into P2W.

There's absolutely loads of items in the shop now that used to be ingame only, but now you can buy them. Added to which the 'Soldier on the Landscape', is only available if you pay points for him.

I'm only very casually playing now.

I don't like the way the cash shop is going at all. It doesn't actually affect me in game, I never come up against something I need to spend money to beat, but I just dislike the whole lockbox thing and the way they're implementing soldier on landscape.

The worst was the barter wallet thing. It was supposedly implemented to clean up all the various tokens in your inventory, now it turns you have to pay up to get a version that actually does that properly. So basically, implement something broken, and look for money for a fixed version.

As I say, doesn't affect me in game much, yet. But the way they've been going it can't be long. It's a dreadful pity, lotro is one of the best implemented and best looking PvE mmos around, but they're basically pimping the whole game out for fast cash.

Skirmish soldiers do not require you to use the store, they can be obtained at skirmish camps for some marks and medallions.

'Lifers/VIPs' like myself get 500pts a month and everyone earns TP purely from playing the free game, therefore you don't have to pay to win.

There is nothing wrong with cash shops if the items they sell can be unlocked ingame freely... it's a choice

Not playing anymore but still installed. I got to 75 with my Minstrel after the last expansion but barely played it after that. Brilliant game/story/lore/content but even with the many options to level to max I couldn't get my Guard past 32 without it boring me to death.
Also, with playing TERA at the moment I just don't know if I could go back to targetted style MMO's any more!

So who's still playing this?

Yet another expansion coming out but not sure about it at all.

& hardly play lotro anymore, even though a lifer.

I still log in now and then, however I doubt I'll be paying the silly prices to pre-orer RoR.

Crystal of Remembrance
Adds one additional legacy to your legendary weapon
pay to win :p

Other than logging in every so often to pay the upkeep on the guildhall, I can't bring myself to play much either. Part of the problem is that all the areas after Moria so far are boring as hell. Tried doing a bit of Mirkwood, and I think they really dropped the ball on that, so did enedwaith with a different toon, and that's REALLY boring :p

I have a load of toons sitting around the 55-62 mark as a result.

Just noticed also that its gone free to play via steam now which is good.

But D3 and other games have pulled me away from lotro and hate the slow leveling and grind

Still playing here and much prefering it to WoW and D3 to be honest - looking forward to seeing what thay do with the mounted horse combat (they're bound to do a better job than Bethesda did )

Please note that the Pre-Order pricing is:

$40 Basic Pack
$50 Heroic
$70 Legendary Pack

THERE ARE NO INSTANCE CLUSTER ON RELEASE - The instances are coming post release but will be free to who pre-order the expansion.

Basically the Legendary pack your paying the extra for the 6th Bag slot and the Crystal Fragment.

No idea why Turbine didnt delay the Expansion Pack until the instance i.e End-Game was ready :)

I still login now and again.

As for the RoR, I'll probably only buy the base edition. I can't justify the price of the legendary edition.
