Louis Van Gone / Jose Mourinho set to be announced as Man Utd manager this week - BBC

I largely support the idea of Mourinho managing Man Utd, but for some reason I have this wierd feeling of dread that somehow John Terry will become part of the staff at some point in the future. Can we make sure there is some sort of non-Terry clause in the contract?

Any ideas what variation of "The ****** One" will be used this time? The Big Red One?

Feel a bit sad for Van Gaal to be honest. Our team is full of average players with the exception of Martial and De Gea who look like actual Man Utd players. He has bought a lot of youth into the squad with a lot of promising players with the likes of Rashford, Fosu-Mensah and Jesse Lingard.

He bought quite a few of those players that are average and he has coached them. Quite a lot of our players are underperforming. Thats the managers fault. 1 or 2 underperforming, fair enough. Most of the team? Thats a managerial and tactical issue.

Do not forget this was Van Gaals first time in the premier league and at the start of the season all we had upfront was Rooney and a unproven Martial. Also our injury list had been horrendous over the winter and it showed by our extremely poor show during January and Feb.

And why did we have martial and rooney as our only main strikers? Because LvG sold the rest of them. This is his second season in the PL, he was only ever staying for 3 and he did better last season in a more competitive league. This year if the team was performing ever remotely well, top 4 would have been easy.

A lot of the buying decisions seemed great at the time. Depay had a lot of promise but let the lifestyle take him and morgan was a beast last year so to not perform this year was a pitty.

Depay hasn't performed but LvG (like with a lot of players) hasn't made it easy for players to hit form. He will drop certain players for no reason for months at a time. Schneiderlin doesn't really fit with the way LvG wants to play so I hope that he shows his quality this year.

We will all see next season anyway. If Mourhino makes us into beasts then it was all worth it but if we end up exactly the same then Van Gaal didn't do bad. At least we have gotten some silverware out of it.

Do not forget that we finished level on points with City and only 5 points behind second place. I am sure if we had an Aguero, Vardy or Harry Kane we would have done better. Infact it was pretty much the reason we won in Fergies final year was because Van Persie was in complete God mode!

4 points behind a resurgent second coming Spurs and level with City which has a well established title winning team and Chelsea no comment! That's not bad on the face of things when you have no real strike force and have to use Daly Blind as a full back!

Spurs collapsed once the title was gone and every other team apart from Leicester had a bad season. If anything getting 4th this year was easier than ever. When will Chelsea be this bad again? City? Liverpool?

Removing LVG is the best decision for man utd now. It should have been done in December and we might have gotten into the top 4 and qualified for the CL.

Mourinho is the best choice now. I'm not a huge fan of his antics in the past but man utd need him. He has PL experience and hopefully build a decent side.

I hope he does not sell some youngsters especially Januzaj.

Apparently the lawyer that was brought in when Moyes left has arrived at Carrington, LvG is there now too. Probably sorting out the severance package.

Edit - possibly a statement ~1pm when the stock exchange opens.

Klopp with a (full) summer , even just with the players he has now let alone with a few astute buys Im sure Liverpool will be dangerous next season

Pep with (potentially) quite a few new players will come good but depending on the fixture list could be a bumpy start, with Chelsea quite possibly being similar.

Years ago Utd / SAF where infamous for starting sluggishly and making a late run, but that really isnt possible any more (plus JM likes to build up an early lead and then protect it)

Should be a bumper transfer window:D

He's supposedly still in with Paul Gilroy sorting out the severance package, although that could be the media just putting 2 and 2 together seeing as they're both still in the same building.

tbh i am surprised many here dont like LVG. as someone pointed out you finished level on points with city and only a few points behind arsenal.

You also won the fa cup too so i think some of you guys are being way too harsh.

Mourinho may win u the title in the next 2 years but at what costs? people say he would create a mess at arsenal yet it seems perfectly fine for him to join united and wont do the same there?

some of u guys are hypocrites . Saying be careful what you wish for etc and downplaying mourinho potentially being a candidate to replace wenger, yet here we are and the same people are now saying his the right man for united.

Personally i dont think he is. United have class just like arsenal but it seems not anymore if you are about to appoint Mourinho.

He will be a short term fix for you guys and be in to some controversy with your club.

i guess united fans are just desperate to win and get back to the glory days at any cost?

Reports saying it will be announced at 13:00 BST in time for the US stock market opening.

indeed.

i still don't think mourinho's the right man. poch would've been better but he's not available but surely there was a better long term option?

i imagine mourinho will be bought in to attract some big names and settle top 4 for the next 2-3 yrs but he's not going to build things over a decade

this could very well be disastrous
