Louis Van Gone / Jose Mourinho set to be announced as Man Utd manager this week - BBC

Who are all these long term managers in the EPL or even at the top clubs in europe. It seems to be another cliche line that people pedal out. The ones that have stayed a long while peope are falling over themselves to tell you they have been there too long and should go.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The same manager you argued only a few months ago was crap, over rated and worse than wenger. You are either account sharing or really do need to get yourself checked out.

Times have changed. Arsenal need morinho more than United. Look at the state of us for the past 10 years. A ****ing joke

Mourinho is the best option available currently - keeping LVG is not an option. The season has been poor and not qualifying for CL is not acceptable.

You just won a blooming trophy. Shocking how u want him gone yet complain when we want Wenger out for not winning the title for 20 years

Martial would get games under Mourinho IMO. He might not chuck in random unproven youngsters but he's had a good first season and is an international. He picked Balotelli at Inter don't forget ahead of the likes of Crespo and Adriano.

To be fair to LvG he has promoted / given chances to / had faith in the likes of Rashford, Lingard and a couple of the defenders like BJ etc and possibly you wouldn't see that from Mourinho. The Rashford situation I doubt would have happened under him, in terms of letting Hernandez go or perhaps using the likes of Memphis more.

This will be a great appointment if confirmed. He has the name and reputation to attract top talent, he seems to get the best out of players (at least for the first few seasons), he has experience of competing against Guardiola, and unlike some I think his teams play good football.

I was really worried we'd be stuck with LvG for another year and really fall behind the big sides. If we get Mourinho I'm confident we'll be much more competitive next season than we were this.

I'm not sure if he is the right man but I know LvG was the wrong man and I'm glad they've apparently realised that (about 6 months too late but oh well) I'm excited to see what happens next.

We might not be improving much, couple of cup wins and this year 2nd. But it's still better than most current managers.

Mourinho will be interesting as the team aren't in a great place. I think it will take more than £200m to get them back to winning ways. I'm sure he will spend that though. Unlike Wenger :p

I wouldnt be that surprised if City, Utd and Chelsea all spend £150m + each this summer given new management, how drastically each under- performed/ needs new players and how insane the market is ( and has been for a while)

60 Mil seams to be the starting point for top line strikers /wide players these days

Inevitable this was going to happen but for the news to be leaked as soon as the final whistle blew seriously lacked class. There's no classy was of announcing Mourinho as your manager though I suppose.
3 years isn't short term, it's normal. All the top teams change managers every few years, or less.

Not Utd, they give their managers time ;)

I am now desperate for Mourinho to fail just because of the way United have done this. Sacking someone on the day they win the FA cup. How low can you go.

They haven't sacked him yet but the news broke straight after the final whistle, whether that was leaked Utd's end or Mourinho's is unclear. Whoever leaked it is a bit of a **** though

It was reported on the morning of the final by the Independent in Ireland. BBC ETC only ran with the story after the final whistle.

Mendes?

Could certainly work for him in a huge way - even without including Mourinho himself......

1. That hasn't happened.
2. He must have known it's been coming for a few weeks given how spectacularly he's failed this season. The FA Cup was always irrelevant to whether he stayed or not.

Staying fairly neutral then :p

There's been some good arguments from both sides of the pond, I guess it will be more enjoyable to see us average more than 1 goal per game ;)

Given that he would have hit his target of top 4 (given that the investors and management only really care about CL and what that brings) with one more point in the EPL, it can hardly be classified as a "spectacular fail" - even if the majority of performances were tragic.

Wouldn't want the egotistical maniac anywhere near Arsenal.

At this point to employ him a club has reached that point where they are desperate for some short term success. Abramovich was a couple of years ago and now Man Utd have reached that point. I guess they can't afford to not be competing with City and Pep next season.

I've said this before, even if Mourinho wanted to manage Arsenal. It would never happen because of his childish battles with Wenger.

You honestly think Arsenal would get him in after Wenger leaves?? Hahaha not a chance in hell.

Plus I wouldn't want that toxic fool at Arsenal. His past record with teams ie real and Chelsea have proven he doesn't take blame very well ie blaming everyone but himself when things go very wrong.
