Louis Van Gone / Jose Mourinho set to be announced as Man Utd manager this week - BBC

Read my post. it specifically asks everyone the question about Mourinho.

everyone knows about mourinho. his drab tactics to get results and his lack of ability to achieve anything without a humungous budget. blinding every deluded fan along the way with ( what he believes to be ) snazzy remarks.

didn't want him back in the prem.

So why are united fans so desperate to get him?

i can understand some arsenal fans wanting him due to not winning the title for so long but united won it 5-6 years ago if im not mistaken and they are the same ones who criticised and once said they would never want the man anywhere near there club.

It wasn't just the results that caused LvG's downfall, it was the insipid and uninspiring football. To have the fourth-worst goals scored stat for this season simply isn't good enough for a team like United. It doesn't matter that we had one of the best defensive records, that's mostly due to us being so cautious and boring. In the games where we did open up and attack we got found out at the back (that must-win game away at Wolfsburg being the prime example).

The Guardian's not exactly the first place I'd turn for footballing news but I thought this piece on LvG and how hated he is was extraordinary.

I look forwards to seeing Jose at Man U; Jose is many things, but dull is not one of them.

i still don't think mourinho's the right man. poch would've been better but he's not available but surely there was a better long term option?

While I quite like Pochettino, he's in the same boat Moyes was, albeit with a bit more style.

Like i said. are united fans that desperate to win things again?

No, we want to be stuck in the wilderness for years, obviously. Winning things is overrated.

Arsenal and just about any club in the world would happily take him off your hands

They really wouldn't. The isn't a nicer guy in the PL and on his day he is great but against class opposition he isn't good enough. Hes not quick, he not strong and he isn't good in tight spaces under pressure. If you watched any number of games over the past 2-3 seasons you would realise this. He isn't as good as players like Silva, De Bruyne, Cazorla, Ozil etc.

He needs to be played in the no.10 role to be at his best and he isn't good enough in that role for any team hoping to win titles and do well in the CL.

I'm enjoying every opposition fans doom and gloom for United and Mourinho at the moment. Its like LvG was a great manager for us and was the embodiment of the united way. Now that he is gone its going to be downhill from here boys.

Moyes and LvG were both risky appointments and spectacular failures. LvG should have been sacked a long time ago. I have no idea how Mourinho will do with us but honestly right now I would take almost anyone over LvG so I'm just excited that we have a proven manager who attracts top players and will hopefully have us on the up again.

Managers don't stay for 10 years plus now. I'm going to love the wailing from spurs if Pochetino does well again next year and get snapped up by one of the big spanish teams. Either way, he won't be there in 10 years. Wenger has been at Arsenal a long time and even in this season with no competition from United, Chelsea and City he can't win the title. City managers don't last more than a few years.

No one knows how this will pan out but I am excited for the summer and the season to come for only the second time in a long time.

I never agreed with bringing in Van Gaal in the first place given his managerial record since 2000; his time at United has been about successful as I thought it would be (but scored even less than I thought).

However I am firmly in the 'Anyone but Jose' camp. I just don't like him as a person.

I do think United will be a better team with Mourinho, but even Mourinho can't win the league with this United team without spending north of £200m.

The only problem is that whilst I would want any manager besides Mourinho I can't think who would actually be a better choice.

It has gotten to the stage where I'd happily finish 6th every season if it meant no Mourinho. In fact I'd rather bring in a management dream team of Rafa Benitez and Paul Dickov than Mourinho. FACT.

I have already decided not to step foot inside Old Trafford whilst Mourinho is manager.
not that United will care about me missing the 4 games a season I actually go to

Early reports say Giggs is going too, which would be for the best. Maybe he'll be back one day in future.

He should have gone a while ago really. I don't know how likely he was to get the managers job if LvG hadn't been such a disaster but he needs to make a career for himself elsewhere.

I cant remember which paper it was but it was suggested he should take over the U18's to give him time to develop his own managerial identity etc out of the limelight

I have to admit I like that (although it could also be seen as a demotion) but if he leaves so be it.

I think Mourinho is 100% the man for the job at United and I disagree with a lot of the criticism.

I think he will play decent football. He adapts to the opposition. Sure you'll have the odd defensive display but his teams know what to do in the final third too. With Madrid they scored over 100 goals each season and won La Liga in 11/12 with 100 points and scoring 121 goals.

For some reason people seem to remember the handful of boring games.

With regards to his behaviour there have been a couple of unsavoury incidents but personally I don't really care. He is a passionate man who wants to win. It's all about the football and the trophies.

I actually think he will stay long term too.

It's not like LVG would have lasted more than another year regardless - didn't he promise his wife two years ago that this contract was the last one?

I mean what happens when he packs it all in in twelve months time? I mean there might be top managers available but there might well not be.

Jose isn't my first choice but he is in my top five or so, and the others aren't available.
