Picked up from a post ThePirateHulk made in GD:

Looks like the M4's are starting to cause problems after 5200 hours of use

http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/0x00000f4-error-on-M4-64GB/td-p/76392/page/12

Reading through that thread there seems to be a massive issue with drives that reach 5200 hours suddenly borking. Just checked mine and it is at 2500 hours so hopefully there will be a firmware fix available before I reach that point, but anyone who is nearing that run time might want to consider not running 24/7 for the time being.

It seems to be affecting the 64gb, 128gb and possibly the 256gb drives. :(

Damn, I had been sitting here smugly patting my M4s whilst watching all the other SSD issues on the forum.

My HTPC server has one it and has been running 24/7 for over a year now I think so'll need to back that up pronto.

are you sure?

24 hours * 365 days in a year = over 8000 hours

this issue is at 5200 hours
Phew!

You're right, they're actually Intel drives in there anyway sitting at 5000 hours, I remember changing them over when I got my Zacate board when they came out last year.

My main PC drives though are sitting at 1400hours.

This is not very encouraging. May have to jump ship to the recently released Corsair Performance Pro's. I hope it's fixable via firmware.... These types of events are very damaging to SSD rep

Ergh... And here I was, laughing at other SSD's failure rates. *Scavages for a spare HDD just incase*

Any word from Crucial yet? Will they replace these SSDs with a fixed one if a firmwire update can't fix it? I think I'm on around ~1500 hours at the moment...

So far all the RMA replacements that have been provided have been refurbished driver. Not promising if they will just fail again at 5200 hours again...

Being a year or two behind the latest tech means it's generally working properly by the time I buy it.

Thanks guys for doing the beta testing for me ;)

A little concerning, i have the 128 as well.
i've put in 785hrs in 3 months, but thats quite a lot for me, as i have been off work on leave for most of that, my normal computer usage will normally be roughly half of that, so by the time 5200 comes round i reckon it'll be time for an upgrade anyway, but hopefully, crucial will get to the bottom for this issue fast.
