Madeleine McCann cops ask Home Office for more money to continue search for missing child

if they weren't wealthy and middle class professionals this would have melted away after a few news cycles.

People keep saying that, but I don't believe it's true.

What's kept this story running is the inexplicable nature of Maddie's disappearance. It was exactly the same with the Chamberlain case. The Chamberlains were regular working class people with no money or connections, and yet their case was kept in the headlines for the best part of 20 years. Why? Because just like the McCann case, it was utterly baffling, and that kept people speculating about what had happened.

Did he? That's a new one on me, where is the evidence for this?

There was a blog post by Gerry McCann himself 3 weeks after Madeleine’s regarding his disposing of a fridge from the apartment they had rented, but it was deleted very shortly afterwards.

I’m struggling to find a copy of the post’s text anywhere, so it could be Chinese whispers.

OK, so nobody has any evidence that Gerry McCann disposed of a fridge from the apartment.

how they got away with this is beyond me it stinks of foul play we all know it.

Wow, you must know something that two sets of police in two different countries have somehow failed to discover in 15 years of investigation. Better phone them up and collect your reward. What's taken you so long to speak out? You could have cracked the case in the first week!

This is one of the most pathetic accusations, Maddie goes missing, the Police do a through search of the apartment but forget to look in the fridge, a few days later Gerry dumps it and buys a new one :)

Even this well put together site never mentions the fridge - http://madeleinemythsexposed.pbworks.com/w/page/39076140/Main Page

I mean, stranger things have happened. Its well known that when people go missing its almost always statistically someone close to them and yet the police routinely don't do a full and thorough check of the homes of obvious suspects.

I don't for a second believe the fridge has any relevance to this case but the police at 100% capable of making glaring errors.

Is this a 40 year old story from Australia?
I had to Google it for any relevance to anything...dingo killer dog and a baby?

I find it hard to believe that there's much chance of this suspect being successfully prosecuted 15 years after the fact. Sure cold cases do sometimes get solved, but it would need some big piece of evidence like finding a body, hitherto undisclosed forensic evidence, a confession backed up with evidence, accusals by an accomplice backed up with evidence etc.

If there was such a game changing bit of evidence then I'd have thought this suspect would have been charged rather than just being announced as a suspect.

Also wonder how on earth the police can justify how much money must have been spent on the case over the years considering how little gets spent on most 'investigations'. (And yeah obviously it was because of the media hype, that's not a good reason though).

Foul play, sure. The question is who did it. Assuming that the parents did it hits all sorts of problems if you look at the evidence. Which, of course, both British and Portugese police forces have done. Probably including some evidence we're not privy to. And they haven't charged the parents.

I watch too many Police type documentaries to know how true that is however there is a new series called Killer at the Crime Scene which makes you wonder how a murderer can ever get away with it.

So is there evidence this Christian Brueckner guy is directly connected to the case, other than him being in the vicinity?

The phone evidence is quite good, he was next to the nearest tower at the time.
They couldn't get him to talk around 2 years ago and they still won't get him to talk but the German Police are 100% positive it's him.
