Had zero sympathy for this couple from day 1. They treated their children as inconveniences on the holiday. Other parents with children of a similar age, make sure their kids are 100% priority. The holiday complex had baby sitting services. Why didn’t they use the service? When I was 5 my parents sat out on the balcony for an hour between me going to bed and them.

Yes they were careless in their parenting but they had their daughter abducted, probably abused and then very likely murdered. They didn't deserve that and I can't imagine the pain and guilt they suffer and as I've found with age, even stupid insignificant things you did in your life come back to your mind when say laying in bed at night. I imagine they are haunted by imagery of terrible things happening to their daughter. To quote the Ministry album, the mind is a terrible thing to taste.

You have no symphathy for two parents that not only lost their child but she has never been found and child molesters are the most likely answer, well outside them. If it wasnt them then they must be in hell right now until that child is found. Dead or alive.

They left their child alone in a hotel so they could go and get drunk with their mates. I have plenty of sympathy for the poor girl who suffered because she had **** parents, but (and I hate to admit it) I'm with @cheesefest on this one. If you don't want your kids to be abducted, maybe try looking after them properly?

Thank you @Haggisman for backing my reasons of hating the parents.
The holiday was all about adults, not children. Have friends that left children behind with grandparents in order to have a child free holiday. I know Kate’s parents were alive at the time.

They didn't need to be perfect.
They just needed not to be so selfish and negligent to leave their young daughter alone in a hotel room while they got ****ed up with their friends.

I’m far from a perfect parent as I missed a bunch of kid’s school events/parties due to travelling for work.
However, on the many overseas holidays we took with my two daughters, the only time they were out of sight was when they were asleep in bed and even then, my wife and I were always in the next room.

My ex wife was OCD which is why she’s my ex wife.
I have taken my eye off the ball more than once though.
I’m pretty sure the McCanns have punished themselves enough. Like every minute of every day.
Maybe no parent is perfect but there are plenty who at least try their best and there are far too many who are lazy and stupid unfortunately.

Nice strawman, there's a huge sliding scale between "perfect" and "negligent".
This wasn't a momentary lapse of concentration where they'd accidentally lost sight of her for a couple of minutes; they made a conscious decision to leave a 3 year old alone in a hotel room so they could have a night out, and while you're obviously entitled to your own opinion, there's little doubt in mine where exactly that decision sits on that sliding scale.

We spent our entire childhood in the 1970s playing out, even at a very young age. I mean all the children on the street, not just me.

Over protecting children is just as harmful as being negligent.
I’m not here to pass judgement on the McCanns - they may even be guilty who knows, but my point stands firm no one on the planet had perfect parents.
