Hate it when everyone posts results from different settings, resolution, etc. obviously not everyone can run PhysX on high.

*** SLI is working with the demo if you have the latest nVidia drivers (not sure about crossfire)

*** GPU PhysX is broken out the box - to fix this run the PhysX install that comes with the game TWICE the first time you run it, it removes certain components but fails to replace them with its own until ran a second time.

*** With some/many SLI setups you will get better and smoother performance by far from using 1 card dedicated to PhsyX with SLI disabled (unless you already have an additional card for PhysX) as SLI scaling is gimped by the PhysX workload - you don't even max out the potential of one card let alone 2.

Just ran this on my laptop. No screenshot unfortunately.

Got ~40fps average @ 1440x900 'high' settings, 8xAF, no AA and no Physx.

Not too bad tbh

(setup - Q9000 2ghz Quad Core, HD4850 Mobility 512mb (500/1750))

I will test this on my 4ghz Core i7 setup when I actually get a graphics card.... lol

The game (demo) itself however doesn't look that great if I am honest. The depth of field effect makes it look awful at anything beyond ~ 50 feet (in game).

Character models are good but the textures are low resolution.

No doubt these are both as a result of this game being cross platform?!

Yeah - huge game world + console = low amounts of data per texture.

I'm not that impressed either tbh, the character animations "snap" a lot and generally look outdated, weapon effects are underwhelming (and all teh debris doesn't make up for it) - someone firing a tommygun just lacks "punch" somehow, partly poor sound effects and vague firing animations.

that fix is great, decided to try anti aliasing on, physx medium, 3D vision on and only ambient occlusion off and the game plays for the most part really well framerate wise. loving the game too, great handling cars but the on foot controls seem to be a little clunky at times

Just tried it with the different Physx settings with a 5850 and 920 both at stock.

1920x1200, 16 af, 0aa, high shadow, high geometry, ambient on

Physx None: 7.7 fps low, 166.7 fps high, 56.7 fps average
Physx Med: 5.4 fps low, 100 fps high, 21.6 fps average
Physx High: 5 fps low, 90.9 fps high, 12.4 fps average

and it barely added anything to the graphics or game :o

All settings maxed including high Physx

SLi enabled:

SLI Disabled. 1 GTX 470 dedicated to physx: (only 2 fps difference on average)
mafia2_2010_08_10_21_55_32_165.jpg

3D Vision with all max settings including physx & AA: (Only 9 fps slower)

I think its amazing you only lose 9 fps by turning 3D Vision on and thats with everything maxed!!! :D:D:D
I do suppose though, its because physx eats all the fps so 3D Vision doesnt need to.

Yeah I found that with SLI (and probably single card too) you don't max out the potential render performance unless you have a card dedicated to PhysX or a very high end setup that can handle PhysX on the main card with ease.
