[MAFIA] The Thirteen Doctors

How often do the mafia hide though? Other than Ghost last game (who hid from the entire game, including the night time discussions!) the mafia have always been pretty involved. This is why the 'lurker theory' is so flawed.

Indeed, I'm personally not voting based on lurking. Anyone who doesn't post enough will be killed anyway.

I'll admit I'm playing a risky game. I have experience so am a threat to the mafia, so I'm just trying to give out as much help and info as possible so I get a night kill wasted on me, allowing the cop and whatever other special roles we have to get a night of safe investigating.

Tbh, that is thee most suspicious thing anyone has said to me. No-one knows how much "experience" you have because this is the first game you've participated in. Setting yourself up as a martyr like that feels like a distraction tactic (much like mafia late on saying things like "we need to band together now")

Horrifyingly enough, I find myself agreeing with Shamikebab (seeing as he got me killed when I was a cop in game two :D). There is no reasoned voting on day one - there is a reason for voting, of that there is no doubt, but it is still conjecture and guessing and picking someone is random.

As for who I trust, it's the complete opposite of Kaiowas. I feel myself not very convinced by the approaches taken by iviv or chriscubed - they both appear to like arguing for the sake of it - and Kaiowas is toeing the same line (his instincts have proven sound in the past however, so I won't write him off just yet :D). Leprechaun is on my "not sure" list, Shamikebab is townie, I think (because that flippant, "here's some content" post was exactly what mafia doesn't do - it wasn't calculated enough) and Egon, well, I have absolutely no idea what is going on his head. Fortyseven and Pudney aren't saying enough to move me either way.

I agree, we need to lynch. This is in the town's favour. I also think that the people who are "calling out the lurkers" and getting their votes in for that reason, could just as well be hiding the fact that it's in the mafia's favour to get rid of a townie on day one and are therefore targetting townies and urging the rest of us to get involved and get on-board with their choice, "in the best interests of the town".

So, just to sum up: I don't really trust any of you.

I also followed the previous 3 games. I found it a little frustrating when lurkers didn't post enough, and sure enough when looking at another example game, lurkers are called out pretty early on. There's even acronyms such as LAL for Lynch All Lurkers (or Lynch All Liars...)

With Jedi running the game, and iviv taking the role of town coach, someone needed to step up and put pressure on people - that didn't happen in the previous 3 games enough, so I took it upon myself. I'm sorry if the tone doesn't come across well, but I'm playing to win - I think we all want to see town do better this game don't we?

I hope iviv isn't NK'd just for an easy win and that we see a proper game unfold with active players. Last game the Town took out Jedi (townie) after he coached town and called his own death. Vocal isn't necessarily bad for town even if they are scum.

The same was said about Jedi last game... and that backfired for the townies!

See, that's more like it. Once people start talking you'll see this like that, which is why we were encouraging you to (and the other lurkers) to post more.
And to be honest, I'm kinda building myself into a lightning rod to force one of two situations. Either I get night killed which sucks but gives the rest of the town a night of investigating. Or they accept what I'm saying, target someone else and I get to stay alive and help.

And while I accept your point about knowing the game, I can assure you that I have lots of games under my belt, albeit not with the rules we are currently playing with.

Only because they went and lynched him, the mafia didn't bother.

Probably because you knew it would look suspect that he was left alive after calling his death.

iviv is playing exactly the same game as Jedit (if he is town) however, setting yourself up as a helper would be a great scum cover.

Calling out luckers as anti-town just gives the Mafia an easy out by posting. Every game so far the Mafia have been (mostly) active so I will be doing similar to iviv and seeking out active players.

taking the lead and trying to steer the votes and use your "experience" can be taken 2 ways. He's a townie trying to win or he's scum trying to get the townies to kill each other. This is probably why Jedi was lynched last game and why iviv feels he is going to be killed if not by the townies by the scum.

Just read back through both threads and can't see anywhere where it is confirmed there are 3 mafia. However, on the mafiascum links that Jedi posted it does usually say scum will make up 25% of the town so 3 seems about right

Previous games have shown that the scum don't need to steer the townies toward killing each other.

I've not seen the number of scum for this game confirmed anywhere, people have pretty much assumed 3 based on previous games.

Yeah. For a 13 player game you want 3 scum generally. However, if there are lots of powerful townie roles in the game then he could have added extra scum, or at least non townie roles to even if out.
I'll try and do a quick breakdown of the possible roles when I get home.

Cheers Iviv. Though I would recommend everyone having a quick scan of the roles that Jedi posted. Leads to some interesting thoughts and tactics. I know we aren't having one this game but things like a serial killer would seriously mess with the thought processes

lol after the first night rather than 1 being killed by the scum 7 people have been killed in the same fashion by a serial killer

I posted pretty early in the thread on this in more detail, but no. We always want to lynch because that is a kill we control. A night kill will only ever kill townies.

The odds of us hitting a scum are 3/13 or 23%.
(actually, are there 3? I assume so but it's too much of a pain to check on my phone once I've written so much on this post here.)
Then tonight will be a night kill, and tomorrow the odds of killing scum are 3/11 or 27%. Assuming we missed the first day.

If we don't lynch today the night kill happens and tomorrow we have 3/12 or 25% to kill scum.
2 chances beats 1.

Thanks man, that helps. I'm only looking at one day, not the total game.

Shows how much use my GCSE maths certificate is :D

I have no idea who to trust at this point.

I suspect Iviv, Shami and Chris are all town - based on nothing more than they've all stuck their necks out in one form or another. It doesn't seem very scum to stick your neck out.

Of course, I failed at the first day basic maths hurdle, so who knows.

Saying that, Chris - I'm not a fan of how you're playing. I don't like the "first game but seasoned-pro" approach, and your accusations are too scatter-gun to be useful. While I think you may well be town, I'm also not convinced that you're helpful to us, and that you could well be a distraction as the game goes on.

Pookie and Leprechaun are two that niggle at me the most. I can't really put my finger on it yet but there's little things that make me doubt your town credentials.

To play both sides, being super pro town is equally scummy. Regular townies don't have a need to prove themselves, while scum feel they do to try and show that they are good guys, so it's not necessarily a townie thing to do.
