Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Hmm.

I suppose his seat could be safe at the moment because of Ferrari's recent trend of being very slow to make driver changes.

Depends on what Ferrari want really. If they are happy to just write Massa off and focus all car development around Alonso then he will stay. I can't say its a strategy I would go for. That said we are only 2 races into this season, so it would be a a bit of a knee jerk reaction. Unless you then include last year when Massa was also disappointing.

Its got to be difficult for Stefano. I imagine he has pressure from all directions. But I would say that, like all F1 rumours, there is likely a thread of truth in the Perez/Ferrari talk...

yes Ferrari gagged him, must be Skeeter's new word of the week or something :D

Felipe Massa: “First of all, I want to congratulate Fernando on this great win, which came thanks to him driving a fantastic race. It is a very important victory for the team, although it must not let us forget that our car is not yet at the level of the best. Obviously I am disappointed with my result. Things were going well at the start and I was able to fight with the drivers directly ahead of me. When the track was drying, I suffered more and more with tyre degradation and I could not maintain a good pace. We opted to follow what Rosberg was doing ahead of me, as he too was apparently struggling with his tyres, but it did not work out and we lost a lot of time with this extra stop, given also that the others stayed on track for around a dozen laps more before switching to the dry tyres. It is important for us to try and understand why there is such a strong difference in the way our cars perform, but ultimately, our aim is to have a more competitive car in as short a time as possible.”

Perez is a Ferrari driver loaned out to Sauber, so it's an easy link to make, and Stefano has also said when they change they will go for a younger driver to go alongside Alonso's experience, Perez will be at Ferrari next year.

Alonso leading the title, amazing in that car, roll on China and hopefully Ferrari make a decent step forward, if they get the car close to the front then Alonso will do the rest.

I didn't say Ferrari had gagged him, I asked if they had, and clearly they didn't.

I did like this bit though:

I think it might be the pink fleshy bit behind the wheel, Felipe :p

I don't think they will get rid of Massa half way through the year no matter how badly he does. He will be replaced by Perez next year though (unless he really turns it around)

No two ways about it, Alonso had a blinder. Seems the Ferrari works a lot better in the wet than it does in the dry. Perez too, had a great day.

I can't believe Karth got a penalty for that impact with Vettel, I thought it was all Vettel's fault but I'd like another look at it to be sure. Button's mistake cost him dearly, too. Both will want to forget today and move on.

Bad luck spoiled Hamilton's day but he'll be pleased at how well he ran at the start of the race, and he's well placed for the championship.

Schumi just can't seem to get the luck, can he? I thought he drove a pretty stellar race considering his position after Grosjean blundered into him.

Massa is just becoming embarassing. Alonso almost lapped him, for goodness sake!

Oh, and much Kudos to Bruno.

Can't believe that I woke up at 9.30 this morning to start watching the race slightly behind time only to realise I hadn't set it to record! I therefore decided I would sit down at 12.30 to watch the replay only to get the last of the live show and thus me knowing the results!

I then had to suffer the very poorly put together BBC highlights.

Great result from Perez and he will be thinking so much "what could have been".
Roll on China, why can't it just be a week away! :D

Bit early for transfer bets. I think Perez to Ferrari next year is a decent assumption. I can't imagine they will do it this year though, but I think that will be more to do with Ferrari's slowness or reluctance to change on a knee jerk than because Massa starts earning his crust.

Where would Massa go? Sauber maybe?

I don't think massa would go anywhere. Not many teams would want him.

I wouldn't say that.

It would be interesting if he could find a seat that paid, or if he would have to pay for a seat, especially given his remarks about Rubens at the end of last year.

I could see him filling the spot at Sauber.

but I think that will be more to do with Ferrari's slowness or reluctance to change on a knee jerk than because Massa starts earning his crust.

Since when has Ferrari been slow or reluctant to change? Costa, Dyer, Baldiserri and Kimi off the top of my head in recent years gone in a flash.
