Malaysian Grand Prix 2013, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/19

Just out of curiosity, are the people complaining about what Vettel did today, the same people that complain about team orders in F1 or should team orders be ok when it is a driver you dislike involved?

Thought we all wanted racing?

The team orders that people don't like are events like Barichello leading MSc and being told to move over yards before the line.

Team orders of "race to lap x/pit stop x and then hold position" aren't the same thing.

Webber was ahead at point x and other than having a **** for a team-mate, he had no reason to believe that his position was under threat. Swap out Vettel's car for Hamilton and you think he'd have turned the engine down and been in "nurse to the flag" mode?

Absolutely not. Vettel completely shafted his team and his team mate and that is not racing.

Horner said on the BBC that he did not know and would have to check up.
Hmmm Horner doesn't know! he was sitting there when the call was made and he is the boss lmao.

Anyway roll on 3 weeks time :)

The BBC have an evening interview with Horner saying he doesn't know. Where has he stated that they were both the same or Webber turned his up?

It's just skeeter winding people up as normal.

People want racing, not drivers mugging their teammates who've obeyed instructions from the team to wind back engines and ride out the race etc. on the understanding that the racing was finished.

Given Mark had been holding Vettel at bay quite happily until he was told to turn things down, suggests he had the capability to stay out front if they were allowed to race and both knew that's what they were doing.

:)

Thats irrelevant, im not the one saying they were not on the same map. you are it appears to me.

So Webber was telling fibs then and Seb apologised for the sake of it? You said they were racing so you are saying they were on the same engine settings?

Vettel overtook someone he though he could to try and win a race. Where I'm from, that practically defines "racing".

And team orders were defined as anything that the team instructed their drivers to do that affected the outcome of the race. Telling your drivers to hold position if there's a chance for one to pass breaks that rule in the same way as telling them to pass. Although it's irrelevant as this rule is no more.

It would if one of them hadn't slowed down on the orders of his team, yes.

Overtaking someone who has been told to slow down because you won't pass them isn't racing, it's just being a dick and nicking an easy place through underhand tactics.

No you were, one driver being faster on the same settings is not unheard of. My point is you have said that Vettel has apologised which is true, you have no proof, however that webber was not on the same map.

Does that make sense?

He was only in that position due to the team ordering BOTH of them to slow down and nurse the car. That's not racing. That's being a ****.

Well so far we have Webber saying he turned his engine down, Vettel saying nothing on the subject and Horner mumbling 'err, i'll have to check later'.

To me, that points much more to them being different than the same.

IMO it is only a race when the other person is racing you. As far as webber was concerned he was holding station and not actively in a 'race' with Vettel.

I personally can't stand team orders, the drivers should just be left to it. That was not the case today however.

Which is worse, Nico having to slow because he managed the fuel better than Hamilton or what happened between Mark and Seb?

I think vettel is in for a huge shock if he ever has to switch to a team that will discipline its drivers.

He's had it to easy at red bull never being told off when he's carried on pushing after the team have told him not to etc have given him the idea he can do what he wants because nothing will ever happen anyway.

In any other job he would have been fired along long time ago but he doesn't seem to realise hes an employee and not the team owner

I think Sebs apology was kind of hollow if I'm honest. Today left a sour taste definitely and we will never know the truth about who was running what revs either.

Seb has made his bed, he'll have to lie in it. Will it be the right choice in 17 races time? Who knows.

Imagine you work in sales and get a bonus for being top salesman in your team at the end of the year. Your second after month 11 and your boss says your already all over quota so reel it in, have a quiet month, don't take any risks as the company is more important than any egos.

The guy in the lead books a week off. Do you lay back and chill, or do you go for that big sale you ha e been working to get it in before hear end and nab the bonus?
