Man city escape ban! Or did they? [Update 6/2/23]

They do, and they are completely toothless. City already got banned from Europe for 2 seasons and fined €30m. Then they took it to CAS who basically said, you can't prove these claims 100% so the knocked the fine to €10m and removed the 2 year ban.
That's not quite what happened though. They were found to have breached FFP in 2014, they were fined and given other punishments - they had a reduced CL squad size and had a spending cap for the following summer iinm. Football leaks then exposed further violations, including City's sponsors not simply being inflated but actually being paid by their owners, there were documents that suggested City had been paying Mancini part of his wage via an Abu Dhabi club and a few other bits and pieces. Based on that UEFA charged them and hit them with a CL ban however when it went to CAS the ban was overturned because UEFA's own rules stipulated that there was a time limit for UEFA to press charges which had passed. City were still fined for their failure to cooperate however the CL ban couldn't stick because of UEFA's own rules.

Which is uefa incompetence too, they would have know of time rule before you'd of thought

Yes but the evidence didn't materialise until after the time limit had passed. Imagine had UEFA not charged City, you'd have had millions of people crying about them being toothless but despite their own rules preventing them, they still attempted to punish City.

Christ that Twitter link is damming! How have the emails been made public?

Portugeuse hacker. This will probably be part of their defence that either these are not proof because how can you trust a hacker or that they shouldn't be allowed because they were obtained through criminal means.

Der Speigel made those public some time ago, that's not the full trail or the full load of evidence. And there's rumour of a former (or maybe current) member of MCFC staff going whistleblower.

That won't wash. UEFA have those sort of rules. The PL doesn't.

I think at the very least, we should be expecting them to be expelled from the PL. What's a bit more unclear is if the can of worms regarding expunging them from previous seasons is opened.

I'm shocked that anybody is shocked by that link. Those documents have been public for a good few years now. City have never denied that those documents are real either, they've only ever argued that they have been taken out of context in someway.

edit: I've mentioned it before but everybody should read the football leaks book. It gives you a great insight into how dirty football is, way beyond City faking sponsorship agreements.
