Man city escape ban! Or did they? [Update 6/2/23]

Man United earnt that right to spend that much through years of success.
Unrestricted.

Man City spent it basically because they could

If they aren't running up debt, I don't care. It's not a Leeds situation.
Newcastle have the right way of doing things.
Yes because they are not a legitimate threat with the current rules, of course you think it's right.

the Sheiks came into the league and broke the British transfer fee in their first season
Well yeah to secure players ahead of United ripping players from the PL rivals when they started performing, what else could they do realistically inside of 50 years of slow development. You are not going to build revenue finishing 7th with the occasional 4th.

Again, if City cheated they should be punished, but the whole FFP is not fit for purpose if we actually want a competitive league. As for cheating every team cheats in some capacity.

Thats ignoring the fact that the likes of City and Chelsea have massively inflated the transfer market through their crazy spending which in turn has meant that its more expensive to build a squad quickly.
How have they inflated the market when you look back at Uniteds buys converted into todays money the fees being paid are comparable. How many times did United push the prices up and wages. Convenient to ignore that. As I said before you could do that unregulated and anytime a team got a decent team or prospect you took him. You were pushing the prices up higher and higher even when City weren't.

Can’t say it was purely United pushing up prices. Newcastle obliterated the transfer record for Shearer, other leagues in Europe were doing much better than they are now, we had Madrid and the galacticos, remember Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham, the other Ronaldo latter on. We were a victim of own success but we certainly weren’t doing what Madrid, City, Chelsea and PSG have done.

Must mean the end of their spending for now. Can’t see them being able to splash out £100m+ on a star player with all this going on.

This could drag on for ages so they will probably spend the same I'd imagine especially of they belive there genuinely in clear.

Be interesting to see if there found guilty if pep sticks to his words and walks away

I doubt many top players would feel comfortable about going there now, at least until it’s all done and dusted.

Of course Pep will walk away. He won’t stick around with transfer embargoes and possible relegation

They would probably still go and just get clauses put into contract to protect them.

Re pep we would have to see, I reckon he would walk if he could get straight into another role or back to barca for example

No chance he goes back to Barca anytime soon. Xavi is doing bits there and they're recovering from major financial issues themselves.

There are some articles floating around today with "insiders" saying that Pep will walk away before the case is even finished

So if City are guilty of what people say the guilty of where does that leave PSG? Surely they must be doing something fishy in a league that doesn’t generate what the premier league does. Neymar and Mbappe alone is nearly half a billion.

PSG don't sign as much as city so they probably cover it up easier I'd suspect.

Didn't they get investigated for Neymar? As they paid his dad money if I remember correctly

I’m not saying this as fact but c’mon they have got to have done something somewhere. The French league is minuscule in comparison to ours and some of the others, yet they pretty quickly started competing with long established, big, European sides on all fronts.

Like I said Neymar and Mbappe would be getting on for billion+ by the times you factor in everything. No other team in the their league can get anywhere near that for their entire squads.

Gods point but UEFA have their own rules on ffp don’t they?

They do, and they are completely toothless. City already got banned from Europe for 2 seasons and fined €30m. Then they took it to CAS who basically said, you can't prove these claims 100% so the knocked the fine to €10m and removed the 2 year ban.

City haven't cooperated with the PL since 2018, partly I would assume on the assumption that they have got away with their dodgy dealing because if you don't cooperate its hard to prove something like this. PL punishments don't go to CAS however.

Perhaps the outcome will refocus minds and shine a bit of a spotlight on PSG too.

I'm just glad this shows the system is working and being enforced effectively.

Edit - @fez - yeah bucket loads :p
