Man city escape ban! Or did they? [Update 6/2/23]

I guess as well, if this makes sense, all of these 'dodgy finance deals' propelled them to where they are now in term of revenue/profit etc.

As in, they wouldn't be where they are now if they hadn't of done..what they did?

Someone help me phrase this better. :o

I'm shocked that anybody is shocked by that link. Those documents have been public for a good few years now. City have never denied that those documents are real either, they've only ever argued that they have been taken out of context in someway.

edit: I've mentioned it before but everybody should read the football leaks book. It gives you a great insight into how dirty football is, way beyond City faking sponsorship agreements.
I’m sure it extends way beyond just football too. Follow the money trail as they say.

The revenue is all fake and everyone knew that. The funny thing is that Deloitte actually put it down as real. These people still think it is 1942 Germany where people will be brain washed into believing anything. Lol

I am hoping this is the beginning of the end to this country owned mess we have with clubs and unlimited money.

Damning though the evidence may be, I still don't think anything major will happen.

Perhaps a points deduction at worst, but not a big one, and not for ages.

Any financial penalty isn't going to hurt them unless it's absolutely huge.

I think they could well be demoted if they are found guilty.

A whole decade of cheating. What else can they do that really means something

They won't be relegated. They will do what they usually do in high profile, high money sports. Fine them and apply a token punishment that appears serious but in reality does very little.

The most they will get is a short transfer ban, some docked points which won't do that much harm in a season they weren't going to win the league and then perhaps a few years of reduced FFP allowances. I very much doubt they will be punished that much to be honest.

The thing to question is what happens if they don't do something meaningful?

Will other clubs moan? Sure

Will they leave? Doubt it

Will football fans stop being football fans? Not enough of them to worry about

They'll be balancing up the long term impact of truly restricting finances in case all the oil/state money decides to move to Spain/Italy etc. vs the impact of doing enough to be seen to do 'something' but not putting the dodgy money off entirely.

Whilst they obviously want to appear to be doing the right thing, they'll also be conscious they don't want all the money to disappear.

people should remember that the “they” in this case, are the other 19 clubs. They won’t just fine them and say, carry on screwing us over and devaluing our brand.

Is this the book? https://footballleaks2015.wordpress.com/

If not, got a link?

That's the website Rui Pinto was dropping his leaks on. There's a book "Football Leaks: Uncovering the Dirty Deals Behind the Beautiful Game" (available in all good book shops) by two Der Spiegel journalists that were covering the leaks and met with Pinto while he was still at large so to speak. The book covers all the leaked documents but also the story relating to the hunt for Pinto.

They've been cheating for over a decade. All their honours are tainted. They have taken the **** out of all the other clubs, all the fans and the PL and all its sponsors. If I had my way they'd be kicked out of the PL and made to start again from the Conference League with a minimum of a 3 year transfer ban on incoming players. They fully deserve to be made an example of, harsh on their genuine fans but cheating in sport is as low as it gets. This is like the Russians and their doping of athletes, its no different.

Just scrap the rules and come up with something more visible and workable.

After City are punished under the current rules I'd have no problem with that. But they deserve the harshest of punishments.

They do, and they are completely toothless. City already got banned from Europe for 2 seasons and fined €30m. Then they took it to CAS who basically said, you can't prove these claims 100% so the knocked the fine to €10m and removed the 2 year ban.

City haven't cooperated with the PL since 2018, partly I would assume on the assumption that they have got away with their dodgy dealing because if you don't cooperate its hard to prove something like this. PL punishments don't go to CAS however.

My understanding is UEFA have a statute of limitations and also a rule on where evidence has come from that meant the hacked documents couldn't be used. The Premier League have no statue of limitations and they don't care where the evidence comes from.

Cool, I’ll check out the book, thanks.

The money in the EPL is just ridiculous. The whole system needs reigning in. We dwarf Spending in conparison to the other top leagues in Europe, I would hope that city are made an example of.

Not only are their honours tained theyve stopped others, obviously selfishly Liverpool, out of ,major honours and the money etc that comes with them. Klopp could be sitting on 3 pls in 5 years.

Im with @robfosters I think if proven we are talking major punishment.
