Man Utd - buy a midfielder!

what a daft thing to say! Rio can't read the game... your just bitter cos he left leeds for a better team...
I thought he went to manyoo ;)

why is it he is one of the best defenders in the game... and WOULD walk into any team and i mean any team............
Because he makes up for it with a bit of pace. I thought I'd made that clear

the last player I want to see in a red shirt is Joey Barton *throws up*

;) Gilly

But with regards to Rio, he is a good defender, but he can't read the game like Steve Bruce could, or Stam and Keane. Don't get me wrong, the lad can tackle and has a bit of pace for a tall player but there are times when he misses obvious things that the other players that I've mentioned above would not. Vidic is touted as an excellent reader of the game. I just hope he starts tonight, probably alongside Brown with Rio making an appearance in central midfield. ;)

He still dosnt strike me as being hard enough as a central defender, and still looks prone to losing concentration.

He's a sweeper not a stopper.
Which is what gets people all confused.

Terry- Stopper.
Brown- Stopper.
Carragher- Stopper.

Ferdinand- Sweeper.

People rant about Terry being a better defender, he probably is, but once someone is past him, he wont catch even moderate pace strikers.
You may very well get past Rio, but you wont out run him, he sweeps up what gets past his defensive partner.

there is more to it than pace gilly, comon cough the grapes up, Rio is class, no doubt he had a bad patch last year, but most players have one at some stage, i remeber his debut for leeds! he had a shocker! But this 'bad patch' has seen him come out and bag 3 goals which is more than he has had in the last few years :p

Rio is very diff to Terry but both are right up there in the top world 5 without a doubt. Rio would get in any team i can think of without a doubt

I rate Gravessen, a good player. I think he would settle in quite well at ManU. They have creativity on the wings, no one really holding. Someone like Gattusso will come in handy with his excellent work rate, even Davids would have been a sound buy for a temp solution...

Depending on how bad Giggs' hamstring is, that's probably about a month out. Seriously, we must buy now. I'm probably a bit more at ease now, as surely someone must be brought in.

we need midfielders now!sign gravesen now he will do well, much better than the current central midfielders anyways!
please god....let fletcher be next!i wonder what fergie will do if fletcher injures himself?
but just knowing my luck fletcher wont get injured(considering he doesnt sprint so wont pull a muscle.wont injure anything else as he doesnt tackle or head the ball)

You are kidding? Fletcher doesn't stop running... just he resembles a headless chicken. But the boy is phenomenally fit.

i actually did:D
going to watch some of the highlights now!
will reply later about fletcher!

As I said in the other thread, he really did deserve Man of the Match. Had a feeling he would be superb, texted my friend at 7.55pm to say he's be excellent... he just laughed.

I might have to get you photographic evidence though :P

yeah fletcher did play pretty well today if he plays like today then yeah i wouldnt mind him in the starting XI but the thing is he plays like 10 games and he plays well in 2.

if he becomes more consistent then it be ok.still waiting for photographic evidence:D

Fletcher played well tonight......but... wait for it....... by his own standards.... still not good enough to be playing for us though. He can run for 90 minutes I'll give him that but so can a lot of duff players who don't do much. Still doesn't warrant being in the team. His passing is still woeful and he doesn't have an attacking bone in his body. I seen him try and challenge some Blackburn players tonight and with the exception of the last tackle of the game, none of them won the ball. Would Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal have him in their midfield? Ferguson really is fixated on him and it's scary the amount of trust and belief he has in him.

I think he's played 100 games for us now, can you really see him getting any better than he is now?
