Manager Merry Go Round 2014

Tearing teams apart since 1991.

You know you're old when you can remember Giggsy's debut :(

Mate I can go back further than that ;)

Today is a fantastic day for Manchester United. Louis van Gaal is a great appointment and let me begin by telling you how delighted I am to be working with someone of his calibre. His credentials are second to none and I’m positive the club will thrive under his leadership over the coming years.

I would also like to take this opportunity to announce my retirement from professional football and embark upon a new and exciting chapter in my life, as assistant manager of Manchester United. I am immensely proud, honoured and fortunate to have represented the biggest club in the world 963 times and Wales 64 times. My dream was always to play for Manchester United, and although it saddens me to know I won’t be pulling on a United jersey again as a player, I have been lucky enough to have fulfilled that dream playing with some of the best players in the world, working under an incredible manager in Sir Alex Ferguson, and most of all, playing for the greatest fans in world football. I have always felt and appreciated your support.

I want to also give a huge thanks to the backroom staff and support teams we have and have had at Manchester United over the years. I would not have achieved the success I have without your continuing dedication and commitment to creating the best environment to enable the players to thrive. I would not have won 34 trophies in my career without you. I would also like to say a special thanks to my friends and family for all your love and support.

For me, today is a new chapter filled with many emotions - immense pride, sadness, but most of all, excitement towards the future. United fans I hope will share and echo my belief that the club, the management and owners, are doing everything they can to return this great club to where it belongs, and I hope to be there every step of the way. To the greatest fans in world football, thank you, I have loved every minute of playing for you and representing the biggest and best club in the world.

See you next season.
Ryan

giggs :(

if you exclude the community shield since most people don't think it counts as a trophy giggs has won only 2 less trophies than arsenal in their entire history :)

There are going to be some disappointed fans (Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City).
Next year, I can see Man Utd taking a slot in the top 4 next year, pushing 1 of the above mentioned teams out of the (current) top 4. But, nothing is guaranteed.

What I am most looking forward to seeing is a highly technical way of playing.

I can also see plenty of youngsters, from the youth team coming through, in the next 2 years. I'm not excited about new signings, as I don't feel we will benefit by buying new players. The system will be the star and in most cases if a player is intelligent and has the right physique, he should be able to learn the system. Of course, I wouldn't be disappointed if we bought Ronaldo back ;)

Can we have a sweepstake on the first United fan on here to tell us:

He's clueless
He Doesn't know what he's doing
Stupid appointment
No Plan B
Why no Kagawa?

I guess if he goes for RVP as Captain the biggest appointment will be vice captain ;)

Certainly an interesting appointment. Not sure myself on this one with the relevance of his success in recent years. It can't be as bad as this year though.

You can keep beating the Moyes drum, fact of the matter is, he was out of his depth massively :)

He's not said we "might" or we'll "try" to do anything yet ;)

What a difference. Delighted with the appointment, couldn't say the same when Moyes was appointed (following SAF, no less).

I'm not beating anything I said I think he choked. Unlike some I don't think it was completely his fault.

I think the same. He let the job pressure dominate him, personally I think it was obvious at post match interviews - he looked defeated.

The fallouts at Barca( the 2nd stint) and Bayern concern me, and that as recently as in 2010/11 ( I think) the bundesliga where able to counter act his tactics so well

Best choice of those available however, and has the strength of charaxhter to overrule any over inflated egos left in the dressing room.

Realy not sure about Rvp being captain, which is probably a dead cert now but hey ho

Edit there appear to be several different numbers being reported for Giggs's total numbet of games, Gimp's image says 953, and Ive seen a few others ranging upto the BBC today saying 963.

Sime of the players attitude early in the season certainly didnt help any

Oh no I completely agree, I've said before the players have to take some of the blame but then again, is it not Moyes' job to motivate those players?

One of the things that always came out in the Fergie era is that the team never rested on their laurels and were ready to challenge again as soon as they had won the last trophy. You would have thought that losing Fergie would have motivated them to try and do even better the following season.

That is down to Moyes and his coaching staff. I mean making Rio and Vidic watch a video of how Jagielka defends, give me a break.

Gimp when you said in the earlier thread you didn't want to argue with newer/fair-weather fans hence didn't vote on whether he should be sacked or not surely the majority would've been in agreement with you and there wouldn't have been much arguing :p?

Frank is the only one I can recall defending him most of the time and Loki had that one post I can remember saying he deserves time to build, wtf were you worried about arguing if you think he was garbage

It was of his own making.

I know, as I have said he was nothing like the manager with his words he was at Everton. It got to him and where he would bang heads together at Everton he didn't have the bottle at Manu. For starter he should have kicked Rio to training with the youth team. For whatever reason he had the balls to tackle Zaha but not the others.

If I was a manger at a club these days I would have a social media ban in the contract unless it was managed by the club. Keanes comments on Rio did make me laugh.
