Manchester Bombing *** Please remain respectful and refrain from antagonising posts ***

Man it's so sad reading all the reports on BBC looking for updates about their friends and family and wanting information about them.

I was born in Macclesfield a town just south of Manchester, and have lived and worked in and around Manchester all my life really.

The spirit of the people is something that cannot be broken, for all the silly troubles and tensions over the years that have happened.... when something attacks it the city stands tall and helps no questions asked.

If you think Manchester is made weak by this then think again.... we lick our wounds and get up and we stand proud for the place we all love. The spirit of the city is not one of revenge, of attacking back.... because at our heart we are kind of people who drop everything and rush to help those who need it.... i have seen countless times over the years that this is true in day to day life.

Those small acts of selfless kindness when its so easy to just look and walk away and think "not my problem"... in Manchester that rarely happens, people gather around and muck in and just get on with what needs to be done. And this will NEVER EVER change!

The north west as a whole will pull together, Liverpool...Leeds.... Stockport.... we ALL stand united! No one will break what we are, and we are proud to be who we are!

RIP

The BBC's reporter Dan Johnson says police have not said what the nature of the threat is but that people need to get back.

Dan says a witness told him he heard shots. There are also reports that a man has been arrested.

This is the problem with rolling news. Stories are just thrown out there without any real corroboration and it causes even more of an upset.

Facebook have a thing ATM that tells you which friends live near or attended the event and whether they have reported that they are safe.

Friend 1: Died in 2011
Friend 2: 10 years into a life sentence.

Thanks FB, much usefulness.

Agreed, mine says something stupid like 6 of 65 friends are reported safe. What am I supposed to do with that?

An eight year old girl is still missing as well. Gonna be tough reading about these victims...

I fear this one isn't going to end well. Her parents and sister are in hospital and she's still missing.

I really do hope I'm wrong. I'm amazed there are still unclaimed children.........The fear is their parents have been caught up in the explosion so can't claim their kids......Horrific absolutely Horrific.

I know what 1000s of us done when the IRA bomb Birmingham. It worked and they never planted a bomb in Birmingham again.
But you can't do it know as there are to many lovey lefties.

You admitted you committed crimes against innocent people on a public forum? WOW

And sadly in some cases the parents may be dead :(

There should be media embargos for this sort of thing on the 24 hour news networks, give the facts on the evening news and that's it. While ever terrorist incidents like this are being given so much detailed attention as though they're some kind of crime drama the perpetrators will continue to do it and lap up the attention.

Will never happen, probably best to to stop thinking it should. You'll be disappointed.

if there was a media embargo then people would be forced to rely on twitter and Facebook even more... and the spread of fake news would be far worse. At least when the BBC, ITV etc.. can broadcast interviews they've made with emergency services, victims etc.. you're going to be getting much more factual information even if initial reports are unclear.
