Manchester United vs Liverpool 09/01/11 and other 3rd round FA Cup matches *SPOILERS*

Two footed jump at ball with meireles, if gerrards is red his is

Don't be ridiculous. Only a Liverpool fan could possibly say that. One was upright, blocking the ball. The other was a lunge with his studs up.

As the commentator said Rafael looked like he was thinking about the lunge then pulled about and simply blocked the ball with both feet. He got nothing but the ball and if you honestly think that is red then we could have had about 6 red cards by now.

I don't think it was anywhere near a red, you see them a lot, he was barely off the floor and won the ball clearly. Maybe a booking as a harsh warning, never a red.

It was reckless two footed and off the ground. What does he need to do to make it a red ? Go in at hip height, grow a 3rd leg and round house him for good measure :s

Stupid challenge from Gerrard. 1-0 down after the Berbatov dive but we were still well in the game and were probably playing the better football but with that challenge we've now got a mountain to climb.

Couldn't agree more, basically playing against 12 players since they seem to have the ref on their side.

you may be able to out some argument up for the red cars but surely no one can defend the penalty decision

Would you have took the Penalty at OT or Anfield. More to the point would you have been aggrieved if Torres was in exactly the same situation and the penalty wasn't given

There was definitely contact, not sure anyone can argue that. In this day and age if there is contact and you go down then it's a penalty. If you watch the foot that Agger catches then you'll see that the knock makes Berbatov land awkwardly on the next step.

It's soft I'm not denying it but it's hardly a dive over nothing, it was still a foul.

I can't and I am a Man Utd Fan.

I hate this notion that if the player feels he is touched he has the right to go down. That is what "Big Sam" said and he is wrong.

To be fair, by letter of the rules it should be red.
What makes it so unfair though is that when Chelsea, United or Arsenal are involved (And now City to some extent) refs always seem to be a lot more lenient with them. A challenge like that by fe - Fabregas , would have been yellow. (assuming your refering to the Gerrard red.

But for the rest of the league ? no, we have no leniency.. the rules are final.

Holloway, Pulis et al have all but said this how many times in the past?

Fact of the matter is, i often watch Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga etc and i never finish watching a game questioning the Ref's performance. In the PL? in almost every game im a complete neutral to (Ie: Stoke vs Blackburn or whatever) i end up feeling like the Ref's had a useless game.

Quality of the refs in our country is terrible.

But im not surprised with Mr Webb involved.
Remember - this is not a Red card afterall with this guy in charge

One thing that I notice watching that replay is that Webb actually has his back to the Gerrard foul and doesn't actually turn to look until after the tackle. On the replay it looks like a red, but hard to know how Webb knew that as he wasnt watching. Also notice on those replays that the linesman didn't give the penalty despite being in a better position to see.
