One thing that I notice watching that replay is that Webb actually has his back to the Gerrard foul and doesn't actually turn to look until after the tackle. On the replay it looks like a red, but hard to know how Webb knew that as he wasnt watching. Also notice on those replays that the linesman didn't give the penalty despite being in a better position to see.
and that is the correct way to deal with it, people should not allow themselves to be lowered to that sort of level even if provoked
